What can we do?

Some time ago Folsom posed a question to us on the forum about what we could do to show appreciation to Chuch, Joe and all the good folks at Buck (other than buy more Buck knives which most of us will do anyway). I have an idea. Chuch and Joe are active in their church and would probably appreciate some support to a mission in their honor. The Gideon's International has such a ministry. You give money (any amount) in honor of someone and the Gideon's send a card to that person(s). It could be done in honor of Chuck, Joe or the whole gang at Buck. They are listed in most cities in the phone book. I know when I read the history of Buck they had given knives to missionaries to use in trading with natives. There are many good mission organizations our there. I do know that the Gideon's use 100% of the money given to purchase Bibles. They sent around 56,000,000 Bibles last year in some 175 countries. Just a thought.

Good idea, but are you saying collect a load from a bunch of us, then give that to the Gideons as one lump sum? Or each person individually?

Hillsville, eh? Man, kinda makes me homesick. I grew up in Pilot Mtn. NC.

Had not thought that far ahead. Could be done either way. They have camps in most areas and the headquaters is in Nashville, TN. It might be neat to let the folks at Buck get a bunch of cards from people all over the place. Just a thought. I pass Pilot Mt. every now and then.

That sounds like a pretty neat idea. In fact, I think I just got a contact sheet for the Gideons yesterday at church. Hmmmm....

Sounds like a winner to me. Let everyone do what they want, not a group action. More thank yous, and more of a personal nature without pressure.

Peace,

Al Folsom

Thanks for the good responses so far. I'm kind of slow but I just thought to check, and sure enough, the Gideons have a web sight. gideons.org/, their email is tgi@gideons.org if anyone wants more info. I just received a letter from Joe about a 303 Cadet. He really took time to look the knife over and give me some options. A lot of companies would have done what they wanted or disregarded it altogether. These folks at Buck are truly great.

Just a note of interest. Are any of you aware of the Buck rep who left and went back to Bible College and is now a missionary pastor with Village Missions? You will find his picture on page 74 of THE STORY OF BUCK KNIVES. Left to right, the people in the picture are: Chuck Buck, Jim Bloom, Charlie Gregory (all from Buck) and the first guy with an award in his hand is that fellow, Andy Taylor. He is my son.

Congratulations, Vern. I like to hear stories like that.
