What can you tell me about my $100 Sebenza?

I bought this knife from someone on another forum last week, and I just go it in the mail yesterday. It was dirty and the pivot was sticky with old oil when I got it. I disassembled it, cleaned it, then put it back together. It feels great now--smooth opening, rock solid lock-up, looks nice too (by my standards). Besides clean it, all I did was bend the pocket clip to tighten it up a bit. The screws are in backwards, but oh well...

I picked this up for $100, and I got it for that price because this knife was a user. The blade is smaller than the factory size because it was sharpened so many times, and the handle shows many wear marks. I never planned on picking up a Sebenza (I'm fresh out of college with very little money), but I couldn't say no to a $100 offer. I'm considering keeping this as-is and using it as my EDC. Maybe down the road I'll have it refurbished to factory fresh condition, but that's not really an option for me right now (did I mention I'm broke :D). I already found out that it would be $130 to have the blade replaced by CRK with a brand new one.

Since I know very little about Sebenza's, can any one help me out with some basic information on this knife? I know it is a Large Sebenza, and the previous owner told me it is a Unique Graphic. I'm interested in finding out approximately when it was made, what type of steel the blade is made of, and a ballpark figure for how much Chris Reeve would charge me to have this knife refurbished beyond just a replacement blade.

What can I tell you? That I hate you for only paying $100! Wow, IMO you got an amazing deal! Looks like a regular, there should be markings on the inside of the handle slabs to give u an idea of birth date, and etchings on the blade that can tell you which steel. one of the better handle graphics that I've seen...

wow. thats a rare find buddy, great deal. ive always wanted a regular. $100 is a steal.

Incredible. One of the nicest graphics I've seen. Use it! You will find the money for more expensive knives some day, but very few poor college students get to carry a great knife like that.

By the way, someone did reverse the screws but I do the same to mine. This way, all of the screws on the back match the clip screw. Sebenzas are easy to maintain.

Congratz! & welcome to the club!

Haha, I was pretty happy with the pricetag. Well, I didn't pay attention to any markings while I had it apart. However, I just now used my flashlight to take a peek inside the handle slabs and they say "B 07". I'm assuming that means it was manufactured in 2007? I'll have to check the blade for markings next time I have it apart. Was there a certain blade steel that was used in 2007 on Regular Large UG Sebenzas?

Blade steel should be S30V

Amazing find!!!!

Can we get a pick of the blade at all?

$100.00 :confused: some guys have all the luck  Good for you!!!

Thanks a lot! I didn't even know CRK made Sebenzas with fancy handles--I had always seen them online with the standard titanium slabs. I have to say, I really do like the graphic on this knife a lot. I've always preferred a more plain look on my pocket knives, but I think this knife has probably permanently changed that.

I was really surprised how easy it was to take the knife apart and put it back together. Its a very simple and elegant design. I am still shocked by the ZERO blade play this knife has...

I thought I had included a picture of the blade in my first post, but I guess I went over the image limit. The blade looks significantly smaller than the factory blades I've been seeing online (thus my desire to get a replacement), but it is quite sharp. Here's a picture...

I don't think that the graphics are all factory...I don't think CRK did nugget style embellishment or "mottled" anodizing. Regardless, still a nice score for the price. Hard to tell what the blade steel is, could be S30V? B 07 just means the lot that the scales were produced in...knife could have been assembled later.

From what I know CR breaks the date into 4 sections or quarters per year, therefore B 07 would be second quarter 2007 ...

Zero blade play comes from 2 factors: the bushing around the pivot screw, and the fit of the framelock. Since the framelock was Chris Reeve's design, he's had lots of time to perfect it. :)

Yikes! Someone did a number on the blade..,still for $100 u got a deal, I'd use it and in a few years, send it off for the spa treatment and a new blade....graduation present to yourself!

Its gotta be S30V right?
The Regs were disco'd in 2008 weren't they..and CRK was still using S30V then

Man great find. Use it till you want to put a little money in it and get a new blade. Even with the new blade you'll have less in it than it originally cost :)

It must be me because something about this knife just doesn't feel right, the more I look at it the more I think someone altered it. Great find, anytime you can get a Sebenza for a $100.00 is a good day.

Personally, i don't like the graphic at all...that's just me though.

BUT, i like the price:)

Great deal on the knife.

But damn you were not kidding when you said they sharpened it a lot.

thats probably the most sharpened away sebenza ive seen. as long as its sharp right? :D
