Greetings all, I hauled out my tackle box today and totally forgot this knife that I had in there. It is a Buck folding fillet knife, has 549 stamped on it. It is a lockback with grey plastic (?) handles and a black paracord lanyard. I don't remember how long I've had it or where I or whomever bought it.
What can you tell me about it's steel and handle composition? Is it still being made?
Thanks in advance for your answers,
Mongo

I can't help you much, but I'm sure there are a few folks in here who will. Would you be able to post a pic of the knife?

The model 549 Fishlocker was made from 1991 to 1995 and had a grey handle of "engineering quality thermoplastic". Could not get the actual material used but that is what it shows in the catalog. The blade was 425mod on the older ones and 420hc on the newer. In 1996 it is still in the Buck catalog but the handle was changed to black.
Hope this helps.

Thank you Mr. Houser! I swiped it a few times on a sharpmaker, and got a pretty decent edge back. Messersmith, I'm a bit of a computer/camera dolt... but I will see what I can do at some point in the nebulous near future.;) I will have to shift my priorities, do some more fishing, and put this knife to some proper use!
