What causes an edge to roll?

I really appreciate all the help. I am not a very good sharpener so it is easy for me to see myself making a mistake that would set up edge failure. In fact, I know I used too much pressure on the ceramics. Way too much pressure. Very, very seriously doubt that the edge is below 15dps. I would be thrilled if it were below 20 dps.

I am finished with resharpening. I used the medium stone to lightly cut the apex off. I could see a reflection of light when I had the intersection of the bevels facing me. I would say apex but it was gone. Next, I wrapped my single sheet of copy paper around the alum oxide stone. The paper was backed by the fine side and was loaded with black compound. I used this to generate a new burr. Reduced the pressure to eliminate most of the burr. I then switched to flexcut gold. This should have eliminated all of the burr. If any is left, it should come off in use.

Well, my image hosting website is no longer free so I don't have a way to upload the pictures.

I could feel it. I also felt it flip and I could no longer see a reflection from the apex. The knife will cut paper, cardboard and shave hair after both. Will try it out on the zip ties.

EDIT: When I say cardboard, I don't mean corugated cardboard. I mean the thick cardstock type cardboard.

No pics yet, but I haven't forgotten! Been carrying the knife and it is preforming really well. I has done everything I have asked it to without the damage I was experiencing previously. Dulling maybe but it is almost undetectable. Very impressed.

Finished sharpening a new to me knife yesterday. It was a Gerber Blackie Collins Bolt Action. I did most of the reprofile on the fine side on my AlumOx stone. BTW, it cut a lot faster than I thought it would. Then I went to my Medium and Fine Spyderco ceramic bench stones. They were both used with oil. Finally, I stropped it on a black then green copypaper strop over stone. I had to work really hard to eliminate the burr because I raised to large of a burr. Elimination took many light passes on the ceramics and strops. (I bet you guys can see where this is going...) Carried the folder to work to try it out. The edge preformed well on light duty plastic bags. Then, I tried some plastic straps. Plain ole plastic straps. I have a Camillus electrician's knife(sharpened by me) that has been cutting these straps for a lllooonnnggg time. Several months, that is. One cut with the Gerber generated a large bur/roll in the spot being used. I am not kidding either. I looked like the burr from a file or a very coarse stone.

What on earth caused this. I could see a small roll from a little remaining burr but this was out of proportion to any burr that would have been left. All I can think of is that I overworked the apex and it collapsed under strain. What do you guys think?

Usually the RC harness is too low for the edge and blade geometry and the task the knife was doing.
