What colors are BM 940 and 921?

Hmm, now I'm going between the 940 and the Spyderco Persian. My only mark against the Persian is the clip is only for carry in the right pocket since it's not ambidextrous, but I'd like to keep my avalance in my right back pocket for stuff and my additional knife in the left for food.

Correct, the reverse tanto/false edge is not sharpened.

Aww, that's no fun. I wonder what could be done with some diamond spyderco sharpmaker rods :D
Hmm, persian or osborne, persian or osborn.

What am I thinking, Spyderco uses a hole, not a stud, so it is ambidextrous. Hmm, decisions decisions. Anybody know if the spyderco persian really looks like how it does on the spyderco website? http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=36
Richard

Yes, the Persian looks exactly as shown on their website. I have one in the store, but am not terribly fond of it. On the handle, the area for the index finger is very thin making for something of an awkward hold. My coworker on the other hand loves this knife. He likes how you can "Choke Up" and hold it closer to the blade. But even then, I feel like the index finger is skrunched up too close to the thumb. But all of this is just how I feel.

Hmm, the 940's color varies, the persian is uncomfotable to hold for some, it looks like I'm going to have to find a knife store in the Davidson, NC area.

If your sharpen the reverse tanto, it might cut your pockets. (dont know if the tip protrudes when closed)

Ok, I think I've decided. I'll get a BM 940 now, though it's too bad that the reverse tanto isn't sharp (still gotta find a local knife store so that I can see it in person), then in the future I'll get a Camillus Aftermath. Sure it's not legal carry, but 5.5inch blade assisted opening sounds like a good time, and who's going to ask me to pull my knife out of my back pocket? It's sooo much money though, I could get a new camera lens for that kind of money...well part of one. At some point I'll have to get a fancy knife but who knows what that will be.

Argh, I forgot about all the cool non-axis lock benchmades like the apparation and the skirmish. I got a lot of thinking to do. How nice it would be to not be a college student on a tight budget.
Richard

Go to the brick and motar and pick your favorite. The apparition isn't out yet, it's still just an "apparition"

If only I could find said brick and mortar. As far as the apparation (and skirmish) release dates, I don't need this ASAP or anything, so I can wait the few weeks for the ETA. I've got a kershaw coral creek to tide me over for the mean time. Say what you will, but it takes and edge nicely (sadly it doesn't hold one nearly as well as my avalanche). I've put together a list of knives I would consider buying not just immediatley but in the long term too (skirmish, apparation, osborne 940, afck, spydie persian, and camillus aftermath though I wish that thing looked better). All but the aftermath are in the budget. I think I would take the apparation over the persian. So now I'm down to 4. The AFCK is for the future, as something to rotate out my avalanche. So now it's between 3.

Is there a 940BT or is it the 940SBT? I can't seem to find a 940BT, and I do want something with a non-serrated blade. Also, do you think the coating is necessary? Unless it's something thuggy like an AFCK, I'd like to get an uncoated blade (unless maybe if it's a rainbowed blade, as long as the handle is not).
Richard

The 940BT, plain edge, was made - I have one in my pocket now. I guess they stopped making them. I've had this one since they first came out.

I think the coating is more a personal preference on a 154CM blade, unless the environment it will be used in is bad. With the coating, there's definitely less chance of staining/corrosion, so I think better safe than sorry. Additionally, since it's Teflon-based, it probably helps the blade to slide through material.

I will, however, sayd that I've grown to like my 940BT well enough that, if I had to replace it with an un-coated 940, then that's what I would do. I'd rather have an un-coated 940 that most other blades with a coating.

You could sharpen the "false edge", but that would almost certainly leave 1/8" or so of sharpened edge exposed, unless you really profile it to bring it further back.

I think what I'll do is get the apparition when it comes out. It seems like a nice looking knife so it could also be my gents folder, and the optimizer is intriguing. Also, since I'll be whipping this out in random places cutting fruit or anything else I want to be clean, it has the added benefit of looking like it won't scare the sheeple. At some point I'll get a 940, and then an afck, and eventually a skirmish. I've crossed off the aftermath because it's just too dang ugly.

I'm a big fan of the App, also. My district manager says we have a crap load in storage. But I think he might be a pathological liar. He should be up today, I'll ask him to send some up so I can review them. Damn they're sexy.

Knifeclerk, you say you're a fan. Have you seen them in person? I thought it wasn't out yet? Oh, and if your shop has a crap load in storage...you guys got a website? Willing to give a discount to a fellow blade forum member? :D
Richard

I'm almost embarrased to say it, but no. No we do not have a website. We are a large chain, but have nothing up on the internet. Please don't laugh at me, as this is not my fault in anyway.
I have been drooling over the apparation since I first saw it in BM's catalog. It still is the sexiest folder I have ever seen. I dig the lines, man.
But yeah, I totally give discounts fellow forumites.
