What decides your EDC rotation...

The knife has to be comfortable to carry, I have to feel comfortable with it's operation, I have to feel comfortable with it's strength and durability, large enough to get the job done but not so large it scares people.

Ditto! I have a CCW, so I can carry what I want, but it's always a Large Classic Sebbie for the sheeple and 1 of 3 smaller Busse's that don't get seen. These range from 5" on down to 3 1/2" or so. The folder seems to freak them out less than the FB.

Lately, I've been carrying a gerber applegate mini covert in my pocket and a gerber applegate combat folder in a horizontal sheath on my belt. One is the using knife, one is the "just in case I need a bigger one" knife. I know I know, not many people here like Gerbers... I just like this applegate series, they seem so comfortable and usable to me.

the other neat thing about this thread is its giving me a lot of ideas of other comfortable knives to carry. Which is something I've learned since I signed up here. Not every knife is comfortable to carry. I also agree with carrying a knife tough enough to do everything you need and then some.

Like I carry my HR everywhere. The biggest problem I had with that was now that the wind chill here is -20....wearing it so its not concealed under layers. Not that most LEO would care given the weather....but no need to take chances.

So I have it hanging with a carabiner. A friend has done that for years. Its low enough to be in the open, not too low you can't reach it or pull it out. Works out good. Except if it freezes shut.

I've read people mention this on a few posts. I was curious as to what decides this. How is it decided? By what you do for a living? What do you carry? Are your local laws a factor in what your rotation is? Are the weekends a different carry?
up until recently, i would flip-flop between a Kershaw Leek and a Spyderco SS Endura. fine knives to be sure, but i began to long for a higher-ranking blade steel and something more robust in the grip and strength dept..

now, i decide what to carry based on a few different factors: i work as a surveyor, and i need a knife that'll slice wood all day. for this i use a CRKT M16-12z. this one is in a sheath on my work belt and i use it several times a day. in addition, i carry an AFCK clipped to my pants pocket. this one comes out when i'm not wearing my work belt, or when i need to do some precision cutting. i really bring the AFCK 'cause it's a hard(er) use folder and the blade has a good all-around design.

at home, i'm now carrying a 710 clipped to my front pocket, and a Spyderco Kiwi in my rear pocket. the Kiwi is really there to give me a sheeple-friendly option -- which is rarely needed as i'm pretty indiscriminate about where i open my large EDCs. i also carry the Kiwi as it's such a nice knife, and was a gift from my wife, so i'm happy just having it with me. the 710 is my around-the-house-and-town knife because of its elegant design and super-comfortable handle.

local laws have little bearing on what i carry. if i'm heading to a courthouse i just leave my knives in the car. in CA, we can't carry balis or switchies over 2", so i avoid those, but i sport my assisted-openers everywhere.

i carry a Leatherman Micra or SAK Classic on my keys as part of my EDC as well. i think the usefulness of this one speaks for itself.

I always have a leatherman and a large folder. Didn't vary the Leatherman Wave for many years but just got Charge instead. The folder changes as my next "I gotta have it" knife is purchased, but they are always 4 inch or larger folders that have defensive capability. Spyderco Military got moved out of rotation when I couldn't get over the lack of a front guard or choil (sp?). I loved my Pro Hunter, but finally decided it was just too little. Been happy with the AFCK and the Maxx. But now its the Skirmish and I'll probably stick with that for some time, at least until somehow I can sell one of my kids and get a 4.5 inch Tighe Stick. :D

Here in the crime-free Socialist paradise ( :barf: ) which is the UK, I have to consider legality. Note: consider. ("Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men." Douglas Bader, WWII Spitfire pilot)

That aside, my EDC is usually down to my mood. I always have my Victorinox Swisschamp on me. Any others are selected on the basis of whim and/or the projected day's tasks.

To be more specific, the rotation includes:

Large BG42 Sebenza
Al Mar SERE 2000
CRKT M16-13Z
Benchmade 710 HSSR
Camillus Talonite EDC
Ritter RSK Mk.1
Buck 110
Spyderco Harpy

I have just received the knife which may be the answer to all my prayers: the excellent Spyderco UK Penknife!

It's UK street-legal, well-designed and the business end is CPMS30V. Mmmm...

What decides my edc is what I feel like carrying that day,
and what I can find lying around in the morning. :)
I usually carryin something small, lately it's been around 3" CRKT or Spyderco Salsa. or Ritter Grip. Or a few other things. I don't care, I grab what I see.
like my Spyderco Jot Singh Kalsa. (great knife)
