What description for shipping knife internationally through usps?

If it was a fixed blade…I would put “custom cutlery.”

Custom Cutlery is workable, "Camping Tool" is obfuscation and not generally required. Inside the US I think it matters less but for the majority of the first world, all packages coming in are scanned so they know exactly what is in the box. I generally ask for "Fixed Blade Knife" or "Pocket Knife" both are as innocuous as possible and yet 100% honest.

For most countries, I find the same. Honesty is the best policy. It’s the lying or “hiding” of true object that bugs Customs. They have google.

Claim the item properly, pay the duties, receive your knife. :)

If it's a fixed blade I put "fixed blade cutlery". I don't know about Chile but folding knives are usually what cause most of the alarm with international shipping in my understanding. I would keep words like pocket, folding, tactical, and things like that out of descriptions.

When I have shipped overseas I’ve always listed as, “Small hand tool /tools and have never had a problem. One caveat, beware when shipping to Canada. Canada Post can be a total cluster f…! So much so I will no longer ship there.

Haven't had any issues shipping folding blades to Europe - multiple countries - with the "accurate description" small folding knife. These have been all less than 3" blades. I've received longer blades from Euro makers but regrettably I don't recall how they identified them for customs. The "fixed blade cutlery" has been OK for those.

If it is an expensive knifed I am shipping to a knife maker I usually add - being returned to maker for repairs. With the proper value indicated on the form I have hoped that the "for repairs" part might discourage thievery. Has worked so far.
