What did I do wrong?

Well I know, but I thought it would be fun to see if any of you folks could tell.
This pic is after quench notice the line that runs the length of the blade and how the edge is black but the spine has some grey from scale popping off.
I certainly felt like an idiot after quench and unfortunatly there is nothing I can do to fix this!

Well thats enough hints heres the pic.
 
Edge quenched upside down?

The problem here has nothing to do with heat treat. The mistake was made when I forged these pieces of steel into a blade.;) This is a trick question:p As I said above there is no way to fix this mistake. I could not make this a usable knife if I wanted to. It is certainly to bad I was excited about this knife.

Yep, how useless is a knife with a mild steel edge?

to paraphrase Mace's sig line, 'bout as useful as a short piece o rope:jerkit::D

I've been historical replica knives lately with a steel edge and a wrough iron spine, a bit tougher to mix that one up
