After searching for another Zaan, I stumbled on a old pivot Startac on the bay. Photos looked great, description mentioned it hadn't been used much. It mentioned it could possibly be a clone but the person was unknowing to CRK specifically. Guys... This thing has it all. The correct looking pivot, grind lines, WC clip, ceramic ball, stand off, the thumb studs look correct damn near too good to be a fake. Got it in the mail today and this is the grandest clone I've felt in hand.

Took it apart. It doesn't have the perforated washers, doesn't have any blade or scale stamps and the lock relief area isn't milled correctly really. Everything else looked decent. I polished the washers and it became smooth, but it's still not what I was hoping for. I've never seen anything so close. The scales are Ti and the clip is exactly like my factory Starbenza's.

I didn't know they were even cloning the Wilson Combat/Reeve Umnumzaan. Especially this good. I'm lossed on what do with this or even why these guys are cloning these things so closely.

My eyes fooled me.

Just by the pics posted it looks legit. If you could disassemble it and show the inside we'd get a better look and be able to see if its real or not

It looks authentic by the pics open it up.

edit: please post more pics of higher quality

I'm not questioning if it's real or not having it in hand and wasn't questioning the description. I'm throwing this out there as how close they have gotten to the real thing. Having it in hand and taken apart it's obvious, like I mention. Even the clip is IDENTICAL to my authentic Starbenza's. Here's a quick shot I took earlier.

You sure that isn't real? Even appears to have the ceramic ball and everything.

Edit: I say that as someone who's never taken apart an Umnumzaan

Reply: The item is a fake. There are no stamps markings inside the ti slabs indicating when it was made. Althought this itself doesnt prove its fake ( I've owned non stamped crk ti lock that was confirmed real by chris reeve), Those washers are not correct to the Chris reeves umnumzaan .

Thanks for posting pics and sorry its not real.

I'm 99.999999% sure. Being hopeful as I was and seeing the signs that said it wasn't fake made me impulse buy it. It's certainly nothing to come from CRK, but not bad. It even has the WC etch on the logo for sakes.

I have to think that if the counterfiter's put that much effort into getting it that close, they are not making much money selling them unless they sell a lot of them. Just think of the prototyping they did to get to this point.

Labor is cheap where they're from, and engineers are a dime a dozen.

That's a pretty amazing fake, though.

Seeing this pic is quite scary for the fact that they are, what it appears to be, almost copying the ceramic lock interface. I know the previous fakes did not have that.

The only things missing here;

-Perforated washers
-Blade/scale stamps
-Correct body screw. It takes a 7/64 instead of a 5/64.

Everything else is extremely close.

Umnumzaans do have backspacers like this.
