For everyone who attended the New York custom knife show, What did you buy?

I got a Bud Nealy Pesh Kabz, (small) in Ats34 with G10 handles and some stag tapers from Masecraft.

Not a darn thing...but before you pass the collection plate I did get two customs in October. They were a P. J. Tomes folder and a J. W. Smith linerlock dagger, both in stag, as seen on this thread

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=274220&highlight=Tomes

Now, if you had asked what would I have bought if I still had the money?

I have a Tah Chee Bowie from PJ Tomes, but he had one at the show forged out of 52100 with beautiful matched stag scales. Mine wasn't forged and has jigged bone scales, mine is nice, this one was awesome.

Joe Szileski always has something amazing, last year it was the Folding Ed Fowler "Pronghorn" in stag.
This year he had a mini- Patriot-pipehawk, what a great first hawk.

On Bob Dozier's table there was a "Personal" with beautiful matched stag scales. I love Bob's work, but this had to be from the many I've seen the most beautiful Dozier yet.

One maker that I noticed for the first time and really impressed me was ABS Master smith Murray Carter. I don't know how he managed to slip below my radar, but this guys work is terrific. Murray Carter has to have the sharpest knives I've ever touched, and a interresting sharpening technique.

It's probably because you don't look for kitchen knives. Got my eyes on one of them when the time comes.

I picked up a few Bob Lums, 1 Strider, 1 Hossom, and 1 Simonich.

Biggest thrill was a David Broadwell Rollerball.

A small moose from P.J. with clip and drop in stag (Model 2F-B) and two Mutekis from Murray.

Did you get that frame locking one with the large leaf shaped blade? That one was marked sold and the knife just knocked me out.

No $ for customs this time, bought an Endura from the Spyderco booth, mostly because they spend so much time talking to me (great guys), I just had to buy something.

Loved the show, this was my first time attending.

Yes, with the help of a very good friend. It's a sweet piece. The work was amazing.

2 Dozier folders. One Folding Hunter with green canvas micarta and pocket clip. But sans thumb stud. Clip it onto your pocket. Or just drop into your pocket. No thumbstud to snag your lining. The other is the XL Folding Hunter with burgundy (wine) canvas micarta. A kickass using knife with a 3.5" blade. Looks like a Folding Hunter on steroids! For practical using blades, Dozier mades are hard to beat.

I do recall a gentlemen :) coming up to the Dozier table to test the sharpness via Murray Carters method. He picked up a Trapper folder and ran his finger carefully across the blade. Yeah, he got cut. I guess it was sharp. :o

i got a lot of handle material for my designs(G10 and Micarta).
Shirt from FDNY , and some bone scrimshaw with nut carvings.

Put an order with Mrs, Dozier and few other custom makers.

pick up some good friends along the way...priceless.

Small Carson model 4, burgundy micarta(thanks Larry!)
Medium Carson model 4 black micarta, very early one
C2O Carson collaboration(thanks Larry!)
Emerson waved CQC6(thanks Ernie and Mary!)
Emerson Viper 1
Cool knife bag that holds about 50 knives.

But more importantly got to see friends I only see once or twice a year. You can buy knives anywhere, but the people are what the shows are about for me. Got to see some old ones, make some new ones, and introduce some of my brothers to friends. Good stuff.

Dozier had 3 nice stag pieces, missed talking to him at this show, hope he comes in March.
Al Polkowski had some nice stuff with his new logo.
Of course my Strider buddies had some smoking stuff. BTW, if you havent heard, the knife that was stolen from their table during the show mysteriously showed up this week in their mail. Of course no note or return address.
Russ Easler came with 39 knives but sold 37 before the show opened to a dealer I dont give my money to. The same one who pulled that Vallotton stunt in Oregon a couple of years ago.
PJ Tomes, as always, had some gorgeous work on his table.
Bob Lum's fixed blades were perfection.
My good friends Larry Brahms and Ida at the Bladeart table had an awesome selection of desirable stuff.
Tom Anderson's stuff gets better and better.
Dave Ellis had some really exceptional Loveless's on his table.
I know there's more I forgot to mention but I'm still on sensory overload.

Cant wait for the next show! Chesapeake knife show, Dec 14.

Yeah, Bob was kicking it back/ relaxing back in his place in the Ozarks. I' m sure he had very good help at the show though. :)

Hmmm, I think there was an additional stag piece at the table. It was an Arkansas Traveller that was pulled out of inventory a bit later in the show! And I wonder who got that minty one that Paul Basch was selling for a mere $250! I understand that it went off his table for $200! India stag is fast becoming rare these days since their embargo to the US.

Lifter, that Ti handled C2O that Larry had was quite impressive. I think I am going to give him or Ida a call. I still hear the echoing of that folder in the back of my head. :(

Drew, next time come by the Dozier table to say hello! Next show in NYC is in March.

A Rick Hinderer frame lock.It was cheaper than a Sebenza and a lot better looking. Also traded for a D.Ralph Mini Max.

Was that the sharpener on display a few feet from the Emerson table? Those ones were on a wood base and had black metal frame work as guides for the blade.

I got a Phil Boguszkewski Mini-Cobra, thanks Ida; and I traded my Rick Chandon D/A & some $$ for a Mel Pardue Folder with Damascus blade and blued Damascus bolsters. I'll be bringing them to our NJKCA meeting on Sunday.

Ken

Edited to correct typo.

I got a long puukko on Friday from Kniv-per and then told myself that was it for the show. Next day I go back just to look at things and ended up buying a couple of small hunters from Gene Baskett and a frontier style forged knife... from a dealer whose name I didn't notice...and its maker's name I didn't pay attention to while talking to said dealer. Needless to say I blew my budget in a big way and admittedly had guilt and some buyer's remorse afterwards. I really like the frontier style knife and one of the Baskett. The other two I probably would have passed on had it not been for the whole impulse thing that knife shows tend to infect me with. I'll need to learn better control for the future.

Hey Nakano, it was nice meeting you at the show. I was the one that showed all you folks at the Dozier table that mirror polished drop point custom of his that was made in 1991.

I saw that Warthog sharpener. Pretty cool device.

All I bought was a can of Ren Wax. :p
