Hey guys,

It's awesome that Hinderer knives have a subforum on the bladeforums right now. For me, this was one thing I really wanted here

I love to read and post about how we use our knives, so I'd like to start this thread about the xm-18 and I'll kick it off.

About this thread, lets just put in here whatever we like; normal use, hard use, no use, pictures of the xm-18 in use and all else related to use of this great knife!!!

I put an orange scale on my 3.5" (was black) which I got used in the Netherlands some time ago. The scale is from monkey depot. It's awesome!
I'm a sucker for orange and I'm pimping more of my high end folders with orange at the moment. Just did a small sebenza and will do my strider sng next.

Cut off shoelaces this morning from a pair of sneakers with my 3" which I carry regulary, while wearing them, since one of the laces was torn and I tied them in a way that I was just better of getting rid of them :)

I peeled an apple at the zoo for my kids today and got some fun remarks from some friends that were there about my 'survival mentality' :) Unfortunately, I don't have too many knife friends in real life (outside from the bladesports in the Netherlands) but at least I didn't get the evil eye from anyone out there possibly thanks to the friendly look of the 3" in orange.

and a picture to close it off, I hope this will turn out to be a great thread for all of us!

don't have a standalone picture of the xm yet. so here it is in orange with a sebenza as a companion

Went for a ride...
(thinking about getting a matching Scale... I like the look of smooth but the feel of textured)

Looking good Evan. Go for the textured CF scale. I'm sure that would look sick on that baby!

Yea,
I was thinking it would be too slick.. The Ti-Side is already a bit slick as it is, and took some getting used to flipping open quickly/firmly... with the smooth CF, it would really want to take off out my hands!
But would look sweet.

My team and I executed a little search warrant this week. Came up with a few goods. Some guns and drugs. :D

What do you see in the second pic that's not in the first? ;)

I used my XM to pry open a screen door that was blocking the main front door of the target house. Had to pop it open so one of my teammates can get to the door with a ram. The knife shows absolutely no wear on the blade. I love it!

Sorry about the cell phone pic quality. It was the best I could do at the time.

Good job getting that crap off the streets... that auto looks crazy.. people really shoot that shit off out there? Scary...
So, how's the Monkeyball on the xm-18 working out? I always thaught they would get in the way and be a bit bothersome hanging there.

You'd be surprised at what people walk around with in this city Evan. We take some pretty crazy crap off the streets.

The monkeyfist works well for me. I like it since I'm able to just reach down and grab a hold of it and pull my knife out. I have a pretty good sized ball bearing in the center of it for a little more weight.

I try to match colors too :) the orange is off a little though...

my xm accompanied me on a little bike trip, saw no action besides my girlfriend using it on my neck hairs...they're gone

Nice car there ;) That Lamborghini goes very well with the xm-18 :D Is it a Gallardo or a Murcielago?

Change the scales to a smooth CF scale and it would match nicely with that carbon fiber spoiler on your Lambo.

Glenn

It's the Gallardo Superleggera, and I am leaning towards the smooth CF.

Today, I opened some cold beers with my 3.5" XM-18. :D

I'm sure I'll need a new scale in a few years! :D

I used it to open a beer bottle last night, and got a small bite for my troubles. I was worried the Ti would mark from the bottle cap so I opened the blade and used the spine. The cap came right off but the lever action pushed the blade into my hand behind the index finger knuckle.

Yeah I know, I was asking for it...but it is just a nip. On the other hand, I guess the XM is well and truly mine to keep now. :)

I have been carrying knives ever since I can remember, but today was the first time I have ever pulled one out with the intent to protect myself and change the direction of a nasty situation...and it just so happens I was carrying my Xm18...
I was driving home from work and coming up to a light when some guy cuts me off without looking... I luckily avoid hitting him. I wait for him to start to go but he starts to break check me erratically. I give him his space, and every time we start to go, out of nowhere, he just slams on his breaks like he is trying to make me hit him. I am not sure why he feels the need to do this; He cut me off, and I was not driving crazy.
I decide I need to pass this guy so when I do so, he speeds up and doesn't want me to pass. I ease up, let him go, and get back behind him as my exit is coming up and I really don't want this to escalate any further...and I am eager to get home to my family. Well this Psycho break checks me again.
I was already getting pissed about this whole thing and trying to work on some anger management, but I have had it at this point. I easily pass the jerk before he has a chance to block me, and he starts to try and race me. I should't have passed him, as now he thinks this is some game I want to play and I really don't. He follows me a few blocks when I decide this has to stop, and pull over. He pulls in front of me.. at an angle like he's trying to block me!!! WTF... This is not going to be good.
I decide not to get out of the car and remain calm and seated... I don't want a fistfight.
I roll the window down, and have my Xm in my right hand somewhat concealed and closed but ready if I need it. This guy comes yelling and in broken English, I think it was German or something, I had no clue what he was saying other than pointing, car, and a bunch of gibberish... his face was red and his eyes looked like he was on some drugs like coke or speed... I smile and tell him he needs to relax and not beak check people... that didn't work. I tell him he is crazy and ask if he is on drugs? That is when he starts hitting my car... and forces me to end the situation with a quick "SNAP" of my Xm18 opening. I point it at him, and tell him to back the "F" away from my car... He flew back about ten feet, freaks out, and starts yelling at me from a distance about me pulling a knife on him and police. I said go ahead, you hit my car and threatened me and assaulted me and my car. I am just sitting here protecting myself.
I leave content he will think twice before messing with people on the road, and hitting people's cars.
I get home all worked up, my adrenaline pumping, and thankful I had my XM which definitely had a much better affect than say my small Sebenza would have.
Sorry for the long post, but this was a crazy story I had to share... I hope I never have to do that again.
Not sure if I grasped how crazy that guy was... somethng was off and he wanted to take it out on someone. He chose the wrong person.

Good read Evan. I don't think I'd have kept such a cool head as you did in that situation.

I think I'd have been more inclined to leave my knife clipped and simply have my daily workout on that dude's face.

He was clearly in the wrong. For sure, good for you for not letting the situation get too far out of control.

I used my FXM to assist me when building a set of stairs from my mudroom to my backyard yesterday.

I had to dig some of the support structure for old staircase out of the wall, and had to cut open a variety of different types of fastener containers.

I also had to sharpen my carpenters pencil a few times.

Worked it hard, wiped it down afterwards, and it was still sharp.

I also used it to cut down a few bees nests.

Evan- is the lambo in the pics yours? If some joker kicked the side of my lambo (after cutting me off) I don't think I'd risk getting my XM-18 dirty- pretty sure I'd grab for something a little more "explosive", but not sure you have that option on the west coast. Anyways- glad you were able to end the whole ordeal with no real injuries or problems.

Hi Rolf!

Got mine yesterday, all I did was strop it and open some bxes and bags.

Great knife!

See you!
