I had the usual very good time opening day at the New York Custom Knife Show. So many wonderful knives, and so many wonderful folks to meet and talk with. The first people I went to see were Dan, Wendi and Nakano at the Dozier table (Bob D. was not there at the time). I was able to handle a wide selection of Dozier fixed blades, and I'm trying to decide what my first Dozier fixed-blade purchase will be. I know just one of Bob's fixed blades won't be enough for me. I believe I saw the new Spyderco U.K. Pen Knife at the Spyderco exhibit, where Sal Glesser was happy to answer any and all questions. Gary Levine and Nordic Knives had their usual terrific selection of customs that I've long admired on the Internet. For the second year in a row I made a purchase from P.J. Tomes--a forged single-blade trapper in jigged amber bone. I love the fact that P.J. makes single-blade folders with no rear bolster.

VERY sweet Johnny. I like that style also. What are the dimensions on that folder?

Hey GB that Heat ain't no slouch! I believe it is one of the best deals going on production folders..Great score! :D :D :D

Me too!
I couldn't do without one of his double bit hatchets.
:D

If I ever came home with a hatchet, I'd be in serious trouble with Mrs. Johnny. Use it well.

ErikD, thanks for stopping by the Dozier table. All the Personals sold out the first day. Bob did alot of walking around, getting the somewhat rare opportunity to chat to other makers/ exhibitors.

I bought home a Dozier (of course) large Foldng Hunter with red carbon fiber scales. While not quite in the "mega" size category, it is quite a handfull even for large hands. Also scored an Emerson Viper MV-4.

Hey Nakano, you were the dude my buddy and I (the two Paramedics) were talking to about the big folder at the Dozier table? Did anyone leave with that big sucker? Really nice knife but not lefty friendly. There were some very impressive knives there.

Nakano, great meeting you at the show. I am enjoying the personal already, glad I picked it up. Last show I went to I couldn't get to until the second day and Bob had already sold out of all the Personals. I ended up getting a Companion instead, but it was really just a bit to large of a fixed blade for me to easily carry around in the city and I ended up selling it. The Personal fits great in a pocket, or on my belt under a shirt.

Forgive my ignorance guys as that was my first knife show, Who was the guy sharpening the kitchen knives? Jesus, the things were like razors. We got a chance to talk to Joe Pardue (sp). He seemed like a really good dude. Those Utilitac folders were really nice. I also met this guy from New Zealand, I think his first name was Tony? He had some really nice practical fixed blades. One had a orange handle and blackened blade with leather sheath. He also seemed really nice and receptive to questions. I found the makers and dealers to be very easy going, tolerant and basically a pleasure to talk to. I was impressed.

Yep, that would most likely be Murray Carter, he is a great guy and makes some excellent knives. I talked with him a bit, and just watched as he sharpened some knives too.

The Spyderco guys also do sharpening on knives at shows, but mostly as a demonstration of the Sharpmaker system.
