What Did You Get at NYCKS?

Got a Spyderco Moran Drop Point. That things gonna make a great companion for walks in the woods and for those rare occasions I cook in the kitchen  Feels great in the hand with a nice palm swell.

ErikD, enjoy your new Personal. I know it is one of my favorites.

Miketm, thanks for dropping by the table. That huge folder, the Workhorse model, was grabed off the table only a few minutes before 15:00 closing time! That same gentlemen also purchased his son his first strait knife. Goes to show that business people need to be consistent in their show/ time schedules. Quite a few exhibitors packed it in early.

Being ambi dextrious myself, I continue to suggest for Bob to have at least a few left handed folders available at the NY shows. In the past, most of them went home with Bob after the shows. :( I guess their sales records for NY don' t help to justify it. :( And unfortunately Bob can only make so many folders at any given time for one person. He is currently not taking any orders for folders. And the strait knives are on a 12 month wait schedule.

I always admired the Arkansas Toothpick of Dozier's since seeing it in magazines. Wouldn't you know it - there was one on the table in a left handed sheath calling out my name! Scored that sucker. Then, the next day, I got interested in the folding hunter by Bob D. At the table, Nakano and Dan Crotts was pointing out all the fine details about it. Damn! this is one sleeper of a folder. Who knew? Feels great in hand, knurled stud is a snap to open, liners make this knife a framelock in a liner lock's clothing. What precision and satisfying action. The jimping on the blade spine is done in a way where your thumb practically sticks to it. This is one remarkable folder. Good thing I use both right and left handed knives. Did not want to pass this one up, even though I was practically tapped out money-wise by that time.

Other scores included Emerson CQC12; a JW Smith folder and one by Loyd McConnell, a maker who contributed a folder for the lottery. Had a good time with all the various forum members who attended.

I didn't actually buy any knives at the show. I did however receive a Ralph/Wilson Combat Elite folder, and a Camillus Sizzle from Darrel, for some graphics work I had done. I did however get to see a lot of other members knives and Wally's Tomes hatchet.

Lifter was correct, you can buy knives anywhere, but I got to hang out with friends I only get to see a couple of times a year. I had a great time.

How rude of me. I was chatting with Phil (who *offered* to buy me a beer and I negged :() and we sat down for a spell. After a half hour I left him to go buy a knife. What was I thinkin'! ;)

Some upstart from Japan, whose name escapes me. Wow. Photos sometime in the future.

Which folding hunter did you get? What size and what handle material? When I was at the Dozier table, I believe there were a couple of carbon fiber models, a bone model, and a stag model. Since I already have one of Bob's folding hunters--3-inch blade and coral micarta scales (no clip)--I was interested in examining Bob's fixed blades. As a result, I have one of Bob's Arkansas Travelers in yellow micarta with Kydex sheath arriving from Vintage Knives tomorrow. I agree with you that Bob makes one very sweet folding hunter--very comfortable in the hand and wicked sharp, and yes, the knurled thumbstud is tops.

Boink got the last blue CF model which is now cataloged as the large model. There was a green and a red jigged bone wharnie and a few ivories which are all now the medium model, which was THE original Folding Hunter. The stag was the small model.

At mid afternoon on the first day, a gentlemen picked up a large model with magnificent WOOLY MAMMOTH scales and asked of the price. I replied $575. He immediately took it. Is that some score or what?!?! I thought it was way underpriced for a Dozier handmade. Currently, Bob is not taking orders on folders.

For the first time ever I didn't buy anything except lunch. Heck, I didn't even have to pay to get in!

Damn! I'm going to go out and bag a wooley mammoth and convert mine from the CF! Sounds like THE deal of the show. Did it have a clip?

It was clipless. Somehow a modern tactical looking pocket clip just didn' t seem appropos with that wooly mammoth. And both sides had a very good match. You probably won' t see another one of these any time soon.

Micarta Workhorse??? We' re talking about Folding Hunters(FH). There was a large with wooly mammoth scales.

The Workhorse is one size. It is made with titanium scales only.

www.dozierknives.com click on folders> workhorse. That' s an old pic. The current model is refined with a more pronounced "clip" blade, longer cutting edge (shorter ricasso), a more pronounced "flipper" type guard. Very handsome knife.

I wasn't referring to the Mammoth scaled folding hunter, I was referring post #23. (The one that sold a few minutes before closing) I coulda sworn there was Micrata on it

GB, the Workhorse is indeed a titanium folder, made with Bobs own Tablock mechanism. Did you pick up the folder? The Dozier team welcomes all to handle their blades. Perhaps you will visit the ECCK show in March 05' to handle them.

I handled it, didn't realize it was a tab lock (only saw the liner lock) See you again at ECCKS and hopefully I'll have enough to pick up a General Utility
