What did you use your knife for today?

As a collector, I find myself wondering what people are doing with their knives when they talk about EDC rotations, carrying several different knives, choosing what knife to use on a day to day basis, and so forth.

So, if you don't mind my asking, what did you use your knife/knives for today? Or what do you generally use your knife/knives for? What if your knife had a log that activated whenever you held it?

Spyderco Byrd Cara Cara 2 - used to cut a string of sausages on the BBQ at my cousin's place after we helped her family move house today. :)

I use mine for any of the following:
Opening boxes/packages, opening envelopes, cutting zip ties(I work at a hotel, we receive a newspaper bundle tied with a zip tie), opening food stuff(sometimes, the "tear here" line on hot links and beef jerky and such does NOT tear like it is meant to), occasionally peeling an apple...

Is this stuff you might do just 4-5 times a day, or more?

So you keep a knife handy for stuff like this? Do you get to use it often?

today, I cut rope and string, while covering my plants against the cold. I sliced Oranges from my trees to make OJ. I opened a couple of boxes that the USPS driver brought. Practiced making a figure 4 trigger. Hacked a couple of small branches off of one of my trees. Sliced an old basketball in two, so it would fit easier in the trash. Sliced some paper, to test sharpness. Gutted and skinned one squirrel that was getting obnoxious in the back yard.
Pretty much a typical day for an EDC. Today, it was a Busse Combat Mean Street.

I carry an SAK with me absolutely everywhere. Today I let my cousin's husband use it to cut some strapping while he was unpacking. When I'm around the house or out at a friend's place I will generally have a folding knife in my pocket as well. Today was the Cara Cara 2 (an excellent EDC) so when it came time to fire up the BBQ, rather than be bothered going inside and seeing if anyone had unpacked the kitchen utensils, out she came. :)

I also opened the mail with it at lunchtime and a couple of cereal packets when I got home from doing the shopping just now.

This morning I used my mtech Trail Master Bowie knockoff for chopping a 3/4" thick layer of ice off the outdoor cats water bucket. Worked good.

Today I used my Endura to keep myself from total boredom! Just the usual opening and closing, and then slicing up some paper while sitting in my office at work. Desk duties suck!!!

Used my SAK Super tinker to cut away the corner of a tarp that had frozen solid to the ground so that I could move my snowblower. Also used the Philips head to remove the battery compartment cover of a kids game. Also used my Dragonfly to open some mail.

Used my Buck Vantage Select to cut away the wine wrap in order to pop the cork. Wine and beef stew tonight.

Used my Case Copperlock to break the seal on some 4 year old cheddar a friend sent me.

Zero tolerance 0300 got some boring use today cutting off that shrink wrapped plastic off the tops of a few bottles of new vitamins.

Cooped up from the cold here today. I used my Spyderco Southard to open a pack of new razorblades. For some reason that strikes me as funny now. I also, used it for entertainment. It's my first flipper, got for Christmas. It's addictive!

Open bags of salt for parking lot, remove pesky foil under bottle of Heet for gas tank, strip battery cable wire, cut sheets into shop rags, cut rope off of a tarp, and shave off some wood on sticky wood gate. Tomorrow I will at our family farm so more tasks await.

How did you catch the squirrel?

used my Lil Abe slip joint, today's edc in rotation, to open a couple shrink-wraps to get at my terraLux flashlights; peeled the wrapper off a wine bottle, opened couple boxes, opened couple plastic packages of rice, did fine on all. I am retired, getting arthritis in my hands, and now run into plenty of things that need cutting.

I used mine to help a warehouse guy cut plastic away from a load of aluminum I beams. He was in my way. So, Gec bullnose to the rescue. I'm becoming a huge fan of traditional knives and O1 steel.
