What did you use your knife for today?

I was just thinking of what I did today and realized that my knife was out of my pocket more than it was in it. I don't know how anyone could go through a day, let alone a life, without a knife of some sort.

Today I had my Tenacious as I stepped outside to complete some odd jobs on the property. Today alone:

- picked strawberries first thing this morning and cut the bads spots away so my daughter could eat them
- trimmed a couple of withered leaves from a small papaya tree
- opened a bag of fertilizer
- cut 2 liter bottle in half for make shift funnel
- sharpened a carpenters pencil to mark a 4X4 for cutting
- opened various packages to install an exterior outlet on said 4x4
- trimmed insualtion from wire for said outlet install
- cut open four bags of salt for water softner
- cut frayed end of poly rope and re-melted
- cut up oranges for my daughters
- cut new clear tubing to fit pump for fountain
- cut up dog treats for my dog (training for SAR techII)
- trimmed two zip ties where I re-routed wires on daughter's Barbie Jeep
- cut weight off babmoo wind chimes and shortened string
- cut new tick collar to length for my dog
and finally washed blade and left out to air dry around 1730hrs. As a side note, there was no discoloration on the blade despite only wiping on my jeans after cutting acidic fruit hours earlier.

Yesterday I was cutting up hotdogs and birthday cake at a cookout/birthday party and cutting tape/boxes on some presents, as the host forgot to bring a knife.

Last Wednesday, I cut the head off if a pygmy rattler and skinned it.

How did you use your EDC today?

Sadly, nothing. Didn't have any boxes, bags, or cardboard to cut at work. And being Sunday, I had no mail to open. :(

I used my large 21 to cut up a huge cardboard box that my new wooden tool/ knife storage box came in. Then while at the flea market I used it to cut open a bag of hot pepperettes. They were tasty! In fact I think I'll have one right now. :)

opened some coffee creamer with an alox cadet, and used my kershaw JYD 2 CB to open a container of water bottles.

Cut open 2 boxes of 400w metal halide lamps (3'xm-18)
Cut open 2 packets of easy Mac powered cheese lol (micarta seb)
Not a very eventful day :D

Cut up an apple and opened the mylar of a HD anti static bag with my Kissing Crane brown mule,
Slit the top of a banana to peal it with my La Griffe,
and dug out a splinter with my Remington bullet knife.

I also had an uneventful day.

Cut open 50 bags of corn to fill deer feeders. Picked at my finger nails. Skinned a zebra. Have a zebra hide in the freezer if anyone wants to buy it.

Today I cut an apple, cut some parmesan cheese, cut off the plastic to open a bottle of Whisky, and sliced some paper sheets just for fun.

I used my SAK Huntsman to cut up some scrap leather to make a sling. Heh - I hunt lots and freaking HATE blue jays. Rather than wasting expensive arrows shooting at them, now I can fling rocks randomly around the woods in hopes that a jay will fly into one.

A failed test part arrived in the engineering lab today. I had gone over from the cube farm to examine it. One of the smaller sections was encapsulated in a mass of tape. I used my Case Tiny Wharncliffe Trapper to cut through the tape so we could get to the part to examine it.

1) Some idiot lost the little piece (with the razor inside) to the shrink wrapper, so I used my wenger standard issue to cut the wrap.

2) I used my zayka ceramic to cut a pill in half.

3) Bought a blu-ray disc, used my victorinox penpal to cut those stupid anti-theft sticky labels aka pita to the consumer more like it (i worked retail once and they DON'T work except on n00b thiefs.

4) Made my right rear pocket happy by letting it caress my spyderco zdp189 cf caly3.

Opened 16 bags of hardware with my Native. All 16 bags contained the incorrect number of the wrong parts.

Cut Jason's sandwich into dozens of tiny pieces when he left the break room to heat up his soup. Warned him about stealing candy from my toolbox.

Another productive day on the job. :D
