With the success of my other thread " What Did You Use Your Sebenza For Today" and since I got my first Mnandi yesterday, I am going to start another. "What Did You Use Your Mnandi For Today" ??? This thread should have some different uses as the Mnandi is more suited for lighter duty tasks than the large or small sebenza. Lets see what we can come up with.........
My new Damascus Mnandi ( pics posted in the CRK Lounge ) rode in my pocket t-shirt pocket all day, still there. I opened it up to admire many times...lol. I did use it to open my mail today. Junk mail, but it still counts :D

So far today, I opened my mail with my damascus mnandi and I just cut up my left over turkey with it for dinner. Now she is back in my pocket ready for the next task.

I chamfered the top edge of my walking stick with my mnandi after cutting the top off with a handsaw. I also cut up some soft dog treats with it to put in the puppies supper !!!

Hey Nyefmaker looks like you're the only one that's putting it to use:DSo having said that today i'm taking my number 68 to work and see if she's up to hard labor in the meat dept.

I used my mnandi alot today. I used it to package up the knives I sold on here over the weekend and several ebay items I sold; cutting bubble wrap, cardboard, strapping tape, etc. Later we cooked on the grill, I used it to check the meat to make sure it was done, plus I poked holes in the foil for the grease to drain. Opened mail also, its amazing how much junk mail one gets.

pueo: let us know how it stood up in the meat dept ???

From the lack of posts, it seems more people use there Mnandi's to keep the safe secure  Today, I got some of those hard rawhide dog chews for the dogs. They are about 2" wide and 12" long. I got the sawzall out and cut them up into 4 pieces so they last longer. After cutting them, I saw there was yellow paint on them from the dewalt blade. So I pulled my SS Damascus Mnandi out and proceeded to cut/slice away the yellow paint as I do not want the dogs to eat it. I sat there about 1/2 hour slicing away. I would constitute this the same as carving/wittling a very hard knotty wood. These rawhide are pretty hard. I have heard stories of damascus marking up or color fading after use. The SS Damascus on my Mnandi did all that with ease and never left a mark. Plus, after all that, it still shaves hair. Talk about tough steel. Devin Thomas SS Dmascus steel is definately up to the task.

I used my Damascus Mnandi today to open a package from CRK. My Custom Engraved NCIS Sebenza arrived along with my refurbished small vines sebbie and some other goodies, screws, grease.....

Today I used mine to cut up and eat a pizza. Previously have used it for rough carving wood found in the forest (green and seasoned), as well as opening packages, etc. I think it one really rugged small knife. The one I use is S30V and ironwood. Got a stainless damascus one also; but it will be a while before I get over the oh no I might scratch it stage.

I like the looks of mammoth ivory, but how rugged is it if it gets dropped from say a shirt pocket onto a concrete sidewalk? Ironwood dents a little, but damage is barely noticable.

I havent used my Mnandi in a couple of days. I have been busy carrying around my NCIS sebenza. I got my near mint SS Damascus Cocobolo Mnandi for the bargin price of $387, thats only a few $$ more than a s30v model. Though I wanna get a s30v model someday. There is a scratch on my damascus blade, but you need a magnifing glass to see it. I have used it on wood like you mentioned above, on the tough rawhide bones, on food prep, box opening, etc and there is not a mark on it. So from what I have put mine through, I would say the ss damascus blades are extremely durable and tough. As for the mammoth ivory, I would love a Mnandi in a nice heavy bark mammoth ivory. I just would have a hard time I think paying $600+ for it. I am sure one day maybe. I would love for Chris Reeve to come out with a Large Mnandi someday. I would buy one in a heartbeat. I consider the mammoth ivory to hold up like Bone would. Anything dropped onto concrete has a chance to break, so that could happen to any of the woods offered. I bought my Mnandi from a previous owner, it was a safe queen since new, but it did not come with the leather case for it. I am sure if you carried it in this and dropped it, it would protect the mammoth. I will have to get one someday. Just looking for that perfect heavily barked mammoth ivory. To me, the smooth one looks too much like white plastic. Though I see all my crk in pics, and have never seen any in person prior to purchase, so seeing one in person may make me change my mind on that. To me, it seems most Mnandi's are safe queens and not used judging from the responces to this thread. I know I love using mine, just with they would make a Bigger One. I believe that would be the only knife to rival the Sebenza !!

I have had bad luck with bone and so remain a little leary of mammoth. It is pretty though.

A larger Mnandi would be interesting, but part of its appeal to me is its small size. I carry it almost every day, which would not happen if it was bigger. With two of them I think I have a lifetime supply; while I find other woods and other damascus patterns appealing, what would push me into buying another is a different steel (a rerun of BG42 maybe) or a flat grind version.

Yesterday, my wife borrowed my EDC Mnandi (she forgot hers) to cut a bunch of paper and tape as she ran the results recording for the track meet that my daughter's school hosted. It was a very long, intense job for her . . . while I had a lot of fun coaching my long and triple jumpers to personal records for everyone! I think my wife would slug me if she were watching me type this.

I used my new Jigged Madagascar Rosewood Mnandi to cut up my apple this evening.....

I did something weird with my Mnandi today.... I gave it to a friend! It was too small for me, SEB LG and Umnumzaan are my EDC's. I knew my friend, who is more genteel than me would find it to be big enough , but not in his way., He doesn't know knives, but he will figure that what he has in his hand is like nothing he's ever had,,,,,,, If you love it let it go!! Bart1

Your A Great Friend !!!

The Mnandi has really grown on me. I carry it everyday, along with a bigger folder. I carried it for two tour tours in Iraq. Made a great knife to use at the chow hall. Still makes appearances at restaurants that do not give you a decent steak knife.
