What Did You Use Your Mnandi For Today ???

The Mnandi has really grown on me. I carry it everyday, along with a bigger folder. I carried it for two tour tours in Iraq. Made a great knife to use at the chow hall. Still makes appearances at restaurants that do not give you a decent steak knife.

As do I -- an Mnandi and a large regular Sebenza. In the office, even the extreme sheeple can't help but admire the elegance of the Mnandi. As for what I did w/ mine today, I used it to score a box around a label for removal.

Thats my EDC combo as well. A mnandi and my large regular NCIS engraved sebenza. I do swap out one mnandi for another mnandi from time to time, but they all ride along with the ncis sebbie

I just have to bump this one :)

I try to carry my bloodwood mnandi a lot. today I let my daughter admire it (she is 3 years and loves the spider on a well known knife brand, I'm trying to get her to like CRK more :) ), and yesterday I prepared a coal salad with it, cut up an apple and opened some mail.
I also Made some paracord survival bracelets for my niece and nephew and cut the heck out of the paracord strands and almost split my table with it too :) Even my brother said he liked the knife and that's saying something coming from him.

I just received my first small sebenza and it is a little easier to open then the mnandi, but the 'gentleman' aspect of the mnandi is amazing, you just have to admire the thing.

So far today:

  • Opened a DVD
  • Opened and closed it a few times
  • Opended my mail
  • Cut some cardboard for the recycling
  • Opened and closed it a few times
  • Cut up some fruit
  • Cut open some food packaging
  • Opened and closed it a few times
  • Cut out a coupon in the paper

cut up a few boxes and opened a plastic package. i know i used it at least 30 other times for ultra small tasks too. :)

Just recently picked up a Bloodwood Mnandi. Today it cut some cheese for crackers and an apple that I had for lunch. Made the mail shiver in fear when I pulled it out to slice the envelops open. (I have been more of a "traditional" knife person until I had the opportunity to try one out. I am really amazed at the overall weight, appearance, and everything else about this).

Mine is currently being used as ballast in a USPS priority mail package, should have it by Wednesday :) Sooooo...are Mnandis like a gateway drug or something? Will I be selling off other knives and stuff to buy more? The Damascus/snakewood combo is really nice!

Maybe? I bought one recently only because a soon-to-be former dealer had a Camel Thorn for sale for $250. C'mon, couldn't say no. I really love it - it's a totally different take on the CRK quality. I was almost hooked on serial additions, but it's a little small for me, so I'll probably stop at one. You shouldn't feel like you need to, though.

Funny thing about the clip is it could almost pass as a pen in your shirt pocket.

Today I let a guy play with it and he ran it accross his forearm to show me he's tough I guess and I think he didn't realize how sharp it is and he started to bleed profusely. Then I had to take it and clean it with bleach. Other than that I opened some mail and play with it a bunch like I do every day.

Man people really need to be more careful when using a knife. Now your mnandi has a taste for blood watch out.

I am sorry but that is hilarious and something that will always get me.

Whenever I hand a knife over to someone I tell them to be careful because I keep my knives very sharp, which apparently is an invitation to do stupid things with the blade such as testing the sharpness on a finger tip or arm .

When they usually cut themselves, they give this dumbfounded look of shock and surprise that they were cut.

I used my mnandi today just for getting a kick out of examining the edge under a magnifying glass :) compared it to my umnumzaan and found out the umnum needed a bit of steeling (after which it was razorsharp again). Oh, and I used it to get some momentum for ordering another one ;) which I did (box elder inlay)

I have read this four times now. I understand accidents. I just can't understand that kind of intentional stupidity.

Yeah it was pretty stupid and funny at the same time. The look on his face is something I will never forget. I showed him how sharp is was by swiping it a popping off a bunch of hair off my forearm before he did that so it can't figure it out either. Plus he did it twice fast so there was a good amount of blood. The funniest part was when he was holding paper towels over the bleeding slashes and I told him I clean my nails with the knife he just cut himself with and the look on his face after that. But he's a friend and we all do stupid stuff sometimes so I won't rub it in.

BTW don't clean your CRK Damascus with bleach! I did and now the coating has some spots where it was damaged from the bleach.

Old, but great thread, very worthy of ressurection

Today I flipped out my bloodwood scaled mnandi at work in front of 6 guys, 2 of which are business partners. After meeting for about 3 hours, we took a little break and opened up some boxes while snooping around in a storage room.
The mnandi cut through the hard plastic, the tape and the box like it was nothing!

No scary faces, just boyish "knives are cool" looks hehe!

At home, I traded it in for my umnumzaan, but it is now resting on the 'pick me up tomorrow for work' shelf in the living room :D

Just picked up my new bloodwood Mnandi yesterday afternoon. Put it to use right away in the kitchen to cut open pasta boxes and slicing limes.
