What did your addiction start as?

I've had knives since cub scouts, but the real bug hit when I got a gerber guardian, the smallest version and in camo. I actually got the harness system that allows one to wear it on the leg/forearm/like a shoulder holster etc. I wore it everywhere, reminiscing now leads me to realize how tight society has become, today, I would now, even as an adult, not be able to wear that knife and carry it as freely and to the same places I did then as a teenager...getting that knife was a financial and otherwise big deal at the time, a real step up from the cheaper jap stuff I had, wow that's neat also back then it was a different Asian countries stuff considered cheap and crappy...

A close friend gave me her Cold Steel Scimitar knife several years back. I picked up a number of BM's afterwards and slowly segwayed into Spydies. I've since assembled a fair sized collection of mostly Benchmade, Spydies, and Cold Steel.

I started with a SOG SEAL Pup because I wanted a "survival knife." Of course, I soon found out about Bussekin blades and the rest is history.

I had always had cheapie China made knives in my teens and early twenties. I had seen a Spyderco Police in a movie and wanted it. Found one at a gun show but lack of funds made me keep looking. Saw a serrated Endura next to it that was in my price range and choose that. Since then I have added lots of different brands to my collection. But that old Endura still comes out of retirement from time to time.

It started in 1993 when I bought a large gun safe and wanted some knives to compliment the guns. My addiction was relatively mild for about ten years....then I took my first snort of bladeforums.

I had some cheap knives but the one that started the fascination was a crkt m16 10kz. I noticed your from missouri, what part? Im from carthage.

Addict?! I'm not an addict! Really, I'm not, ya gotta believe me man.... ;):D

I would probably blame my CRKT Cruiser that I bought back when I was a teen. It was the last in a long line of cheap knives, and after the lock broke I finally had an excuse to replace it with something better. I decided it was time to invest in my first "premium" knife, something that I would actually WANT to own for more than a few months. My spyderco Stretch is what really started it all. It was love at first sight. And the following Christmas when I got my Izula I was hooked.

It was the skyline for me as well. I bought an OD-2 and decided it was too small so picked up a skyline. I have always liked knives but that was the one I fell in love with and got me to start justifying more and more expensive knives.

I was always interested in knives. Had many cheapies growing up, would never consider spending much more than $20 on a knife (that's crazy talk! it's just a knife! lol). In my early to mid 20's I slowly worked my way up to a $100 limit. But the knife that sealed the deal and caused my bank account to hate me was the PM2. Damn that knife! I now have around a $350ish limit lol and the collection is steadily growing :)
