What did your knife do today?

On my days off, I generally like to do something interesting with my knife. Recently, I have been into bushcrafting tools (spoons, forks, whistles, traps, stakes, pot hangers, etc.)

I have had a fantastic and productive weekend so far. Yesterday I took my oldest son on a hike through hot, humid and very wet woods...it was great but brutal (by his and my standards). I have accomplished a few other things around the house too so at about noon today, I was BEAT!

Today is much hotter and as humid as yesterday, so I knew I was not going to get much done after noon...so went to the back of my yard and harvested some wood and started playing.

I call it the forking whistle. Might use it to call the troops to dinner tonight (grilling steak), then use it to eat with!

The knife in the picture did everything except bore the hole for the whistle.

So, what did your knife do today?

I cleaned my finger nails lol, cut some string and tape. Cut a new notch in one of my hearth boards for the hand drill,

and sharpened a pencil. I love my knives:D.

I love the fork/whisle that you made. Great Job.

I worked up a bowdrill coal using weeping willow the good old fashion way. However, this last week I've been familiarizing myself with this little knife I won at the Missouri Meetup. Its 4" long with walnut handles (I think), extremely thin (thinner than a mora) and razor sharp. Came with a deerhide sheath and rawhide insert. Very authentic and again I'm impressed at what this thin little lazor can do when it gets put to the task of eating wood!

Had to clean spilled soda out of my victorinox officer suisse. Didnt notice it had been spilled on it when i knocked a cup over a week ago. Sharpened it up and got it ready for its new position in my new pack. It's so much lightere than my Juice that it has been called up to active duty.

Does that count?

I sawed through a twig with my piece of crap brookstone multitool, and cut a loose tread off some curtains.

i used my eskabar and a baton to cut chunks out of sticks/limbs that i couldn't break over my leg then smacked them against a tree and they break. i was cleaning up the kindling pile up/ relocating it. that little knife can handle a lot i wasn't gentle with it.

I don't think it qualifies as interesting, but cut back a bunch of ivy and trimmed up manzanita with my Bark River Golok. Also made some 4 ft. stakes out of bamboo for the garden...hanging mesh over the strawberries to keep the birds out. Got used some to pry weeds out of the ground and cut out roots. Just gave it a much needed sharpening.

Stripped some bark to mash into tinder for my fire.

And a photo-op.

Carved a small wooden sheath from dried baton.
It's for a friend of my family who needs to carry her cooking knife.

Well, added a lanyard to my Gerber FASTdraw, used my Buck 110 to cut some paracord (see <-) and used my razor-utility knife a lot at work (cutting open boxes LOL).

Pryed open a blue mussel with my Victorinox. I put my tongue on it and ive never tasted anything so salty before in my entire life. It was as salty-tasting as it was nasty-looking.Im going back again, and this time ill make a fire and roast a bunch of them. Ill bring my DSLR too and take some better pics.

I chopped through an old coffee table in someones living room. They said they were throwing it away, so I pulled out the CS pocket bushman.

I'm sure Lynn would be proud.

I used a few different blades this weekend for yard work, therapeutic whittling of interlocking notches at my son's baseball game, and putting the finishing touches on a dogwood hiking stick.
