What do carry when in place of a knife.NO KNIFE EDC

Personally I would just go without because a knife on campus is just handy and not a necessity. But let's play the game. :D Let's get all cerebral for a second. You go to a school. I assume a college but I'm sure this would work for a HS as well. How about a piece of flint rolled in a scrap piece of leather. It will cut whatever you want and people will think it's cool. If questioned just say you're doing lithic analysis. ;) You could even go so far as to carry a piece of antler for self defense and say you use it to flintknap. And don't forget the hammer stone. :D

Have not had the chance to actually handle these but Leatherman started making folding EMT Shears. They are called the Raptor, and they fold over into a small package, incorporate a strap cutter, ruler, glass breaker, pocket clip, ring cutter, and oxygen wrench. It even has a sheath that it can carry open or closed in. They are very cool and would probably cut whatever needed cutting.

I am still in high school and I want to carry a knife for utitality not protection so a cane big flashlight are no good. or any knives

Hidden in the depths and folds of my wallet:

I almost never use it, but I like having it there.

Kwon Kwang, I have one of those, too. A friend gave it to me about 1976. The plastic case is in camo. :)

I've got one of those too, actually used it today!

I bought mine for a dollar from a non-paying Chinese dealer. Quality is obviously nothing to write home about, but it's a convenient and nicely designed little tool. It's weighs almost nothing in my wallet, and I go through metal detectors all the time while forgetting that it's in there.

So another goofy story...

My Dad, a born and bred Kentuckian get's a new Californian boss during our time in Cincinnati. Both executives.

California boss - "I see you have a pocket knife...isn't that a weapon?"

Dad takes the small folder out of his pocket, looks at it quizzically...and says "I'm from Kentucky...if I had a 10" screwdriver we could talk about weapons".

Cali boss thinks for a minute, shrugs, and they went back to working on some budget.

Long story short, if you feel the need to carry a self-defense tool, be creative. If you need a cutting implement, lots of options have been mentioned.
