Last week I sold a knife..agreed on price..the buyer agreed to send out a money order. This was on Oct. 2. One week later no money order, and this person does not respond to his emails. On monday I sent him and email just stating I had not received money order and hopefully tomorrow it would arrive. On Wednesday (yesterday) I sent him another email saying " Is there a problem?" no response. I know that this guy is not a member of this board but is making other deals with people. The money order is coming from only a few states away so its not a mail thing...

I was thinking about sending him another stronger worded email saying if I did not have payment by this weekend I was going to repost the knife. And post his name on GB&U as a no payer..I dunno why do I alway attract the wierdos:rolleyes:

I agree that you should be really having a bad feeling about this, but its too early to bring out the 12 gauge. I know that there are "known" forum members that don't respond to emails for days sometimes. If you have his name and address, have you tried calling? I know that this would be more hassle than what you signed up for, but who knows, the guy could be laid up in the hospital or crashed his computer. There may be some reasonable explanation, but it better come damn quick.

Any idea who else has dealt with him? Maybe they would have some insight.

I think you are right on the bubble of having waited about long enough. Maybe another email that if there is no word/payment by noon your time Friday, it goes back up for sale and his name goes on GBU with a "be careful with this guy". Calling someone a freakin loser/ deadbeat / thief etc is too strong until you know for sure. Now, if he turns out to be a freakin loser/ deadbeat / thief, then a rose is a rose is a rose.

Don't feel like you attract all the wierd ones. You just appear to be doing lots of deals right now, and the law of averages has you. I can't hardly beleive the cryptic crap that people send me sometimes...

I advise you to give him another week, then notify him by email that the deal is canceled because of non payment. Strong words or outing him here won't help you get paid.

You think you get wierdo's? Try working shows and selling knives for a living!

The money order could be delayed in the mail; even if it were only across town (in my town, anyway -- the lettercarriers often deliver to the wrong address).

There are a lot of reasons people don't answer email for a while. Don't you have any other way to get in touch with him? A phone number? Even snailmail -- some of us forget it's possible to send messages as well as packages by snailmail, but you've been trying to get in touch with him for a week; a letter wouldn't take that long!

Speaking for myself, I have never dealt with anyone on the net without exchanging voice phone numbers first. Email is pretty reliable but it's not perfect....

I agree with almost everything said about patience and forebearance BUT Ren said that the guy is making deals with other people so he is not out of town or in Iraq or some valid excuse for not even communicating with him. That's what would trouble me. I have had slow money orders too, but I kept in touch with the other person so there would be no misunderstandings.

Ren,

Hope this person is not T. L. Burroughs of Meridian, MS. If so, you'll never see the M/O. If it is, drop me an email and I'll give you some more info.

No harm, no foul. You didn't send him anything so you haven't lost a penny. When you decide you've waited as along as you intend to -- and that's strictly your call -- send him one more e-mail: "Answer me. please, or I repost the knife for sale."

Nobody here needs to know his name. He's only hurting himself.

E-mails can be a superb way of communicating. . .but unfortunately service can go down (typically at the most inopertune time).

There has been some excellent advice given in this thread (i.e., exchanging voice phone numbers, give him another week - then notify him by email that the deal is canceled because of non payment, send him one more e-mail: "Answer please or I repost the knife for sale", outing him here won't help you get paid, and no harm, no foul - you didn't send him anything so you haven't lost a penny.

The person that you're dealing with "isn't a member here". . .so posting his particulars isn't going to do much.

as a side note ..those of you who want my shiit list of people I will never deal with ....email me and I will send you the document in word format..
