What do I get?

Hi! I'm a big fan of both Kershaw and Spyderco knives. I currently own a Needs Work, but it really doesn't fit the bill for EDC in my opinion. It's a great design, but it's a bit too bulky and I'm not a big fan of the handle material. I find it too slippery. But I absolutly love the assisted opening.

What I want is an AO Kershaw that's nice and slim. Blade length in the 3" area, with a grippy handle and excellent ergos. I prefer tip-up carry, but tip-down would be ok if the knife fits the bill in every other way.

So what do I get??? Looking at all the Kershaws available just makes me more confused. I'm sure I'll be getting a Skyline once that comes out, but I need a fix now. Help me out, guys!

I feel the same way about the Needs Work - if it had scales like the Skyline it would be perfect.

Check out the ENER-G. 3 1/2" blade, according to the specs, but the measurable sharp part is 3 1/4 inches, very grippy Tec-Trac handle inserts, tip up available. The knife feels natural in my hand.

The only drawback you may see is that it's not a true AO. Don't let this stop you. It does have the flipper on the top, and it's a Lee Williams designed opener (and knife). I can get mine (the full sized one) to open just as quick as a Kershaw/Onion AO, without any wrist movement. Locks up rock solid. It just takes a little practice, and a full length pull when working your flipper finger. And of all the Kershaw's I've bought, this one was by far the sharpest out of the box.

Take a look at NGK's site. And while you're looking, the pic of the ENER-G on their site is my knife!

Glock, you know I would have said the same...but he wants grippy. While the Cyclones do fit well in the hand, they're not real "grippy"...that's why I suggested the ENER-G...

Mini-Cyclone and Leek doesn't do it for me, but the Ener-G looks nice. What do you guys think about the Mini-Mojo/Mojito? It's got a G-10 inlay that should really help in the grip department, looks great, can be used tip-up, is the right size and seems really ergonomic! Is it slim enough to be used for EDC?

But I'm confused about this one too... Is there a difference between the Mini-Mojo and the Mini-Mojito? Some sites say the blade is 440A, others list it as Sandvik steel. What is it really?

Grippy??...Skateboard tape to the scales would solve THAT problem.:D.:D.
Actually, I have no problem with the "grippyness" of the aluminum scales on my Cyclones.

I would get a Whirlwid (love mine) or the new Shallot. I love the look of that thing. It seems really thin though. I think the Whirlwind is an absolutely incredible knife. Matt Damon used one in The Departed :)

If ya' need grippy, and AO, how 'bout a Leek with G10 Scales?

"...but I need a fix now. Help me out, guys!"

That's classic! Welcome aboard Flanker! Great site, with good folks hangin' out here. Make sure to let us know which knife you end up with.

I'm in agreement... sounds to me like the g10 s30v leek is you dream EDC.

Well, I'm the one-man cheer-leading squad here for the Mini Mojo/Mojito. These great knives do not get enough page time around here. To me, it's Kershaw's best kept "secret"! I have 2, and Sandy has one that she religiously carries every day (in tight blue jeans), so the profile is thin enough you only notice the clip. All are 440A, so they are Mojos. If you want the 13C26 Sandvik steel, then make sure you get one with a "born on" date of August 07 or later. That's the Mojito. Anything prior to August 07 is 440A (Mojo). We haven't been the least bit disappointed with the 440A steel...it holds an edge quite well, and sharpens very easily.

These knives pack a bunch of features in a relatively small package, at only 3.1 ounces. A beautiful recurve drop point blade, tip up or down, SpeedSafe AO, the Stud Lock locking system, and an ingenious safety that is built into the flipper. Even Sandy, with long fingernails can close hers one-handed. The G-10 adds a little grip, but with the relatively small size of the knife, it fits so well in your hand it's not really needed.

That's a Mojo pictured below with one of my .45s, set for tip up carry. We both really love this "little" knife!

Then you won't mind if I join you... We'll make a two-man cheer squad! Mojito it is. Now I've just got to find one from a seller that won't rob me on intl. shipping.

That's gonna be kinda hard to get around but don't let it
stop you. I'm sure you'll find it worth every penny.

Good luck and Merry Christmas from the Kershaw family!!! :)

And yes, we are a tight nit family here. Hang around and
enjoy yourself.

Flanker, I'd enjoy the company!

There's a link to Kershaw at the top of this page. If you really want the 13C26, email or better yet call them, and ask what dealers they do direct business with that have been shipped the Mojitos. Then double check with that dealer that they are shipping you the 13C26, born on date of August 07 or later. Make sure you get what you want, then worry about the shipping!

Welcome aboard, and don't be a stranger. There's a wealth of knowledge here!

Let us know what you find...Oh, and be VERY careful if you go to eBay...

Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!

I don't currently carry one but I'm in the market and agree with the Mojito as well... it has a lot of innovation for the buck. not as much G10 as the leek and the s30V is a harder use steel, but it's also about $40 cheaper (ithink)

Avalanche...the grippiest G10 ever, S30V, and a little more handle and blade than the leek. I have one and love it.

You can count me in on the Mojo/Mojito cheerleading squad. It is one of the knives that turned me into a hardcore Kershaw fan.

I had to buy my girlfriend one because she kept "borrowing" it. She carries hers in tight jeans as well.

In any case it is a fantastic knife, one that I would love to see a high end or larger version of.
