Sounds like you've caught the bug already! I would just like to say, don't get caught up trying to buy to much equipment. Start with the minimum tools you can afford and give it some time to see if you do develop the DISEASE! I started out with a dremmel, a bunch of files (used) from pawn shops as well as a used hand drill, tons of sandpaper, and my vise was the kitchen table. I pulled apart the table, put the steel in the middle and slammed the table shut and held it together using my feet on the legs. Wasn't very comfortable, but it worked! C clamp? Durn, wish I would have though of that! My back still hurts... And, as others have said, this forum is the most fantastic place to learn. I commend everyone who contributes to this site and their willingness to help. Knifemakers are some the most fantastic people you will ever meet! I've spent tons of hours reading. It pays to do your homework first, then put it into application. Good luck! And remember, you can't learn it all, so it will never, EVER get boring, but you'll spend a lot of time being frustrated, and will end up with a pile of mistakes in the drawer that you will eventually come back to and fix. If you take a look at my site, I started with Ice Saws, that were already tempered. Just cut off a chunk with a hack saw and got Bizzy! I just recently changed several of my ideas and ways of thinking. I got the forging Bug Bigtime from two Super people a couple of years ago, who are Rob and Dick Patton in Garden City, Idaho. So my site is seriously outdated, but will come out with all my new and improved stuff in the near future. Hoping to suprise everybody at the Montana Knifemakers Assoc. show in July. SSSHHHHHH BIG SECRET!!!!! Bye!
