I am somewhat of a cheap b*stid when it comes to my work knives. I am a machinist and a knife is a hunk of metal I drop in my back pocket to use. I have TOO many knives like the Mercator, Douk Douk, Rough Rider, etc..

I have a few more expensive knives which end up in a drawer or as "Sunday go to meeting" knives.

I even deburr metal with the small blade on my two bladed slipjoints at work. I've been wanting something with harder steel. I finally bit the bullet and got a Queen Canoe in D2. The knife was beautiful out of the box and I was walking to my car thinking I had bought another drawer queen. Then I dropped it on the sidewalk and dinged it up a bit. Figured then it was meant to be my work knife.

My question then is this... Being a machinist I work in fluids like oil and coolant. Coolant is a mixture of water, mineral oil, a detergent to emulsify the mineral oil so it suspends in the water, and who knows what else. What do I put on the stag to protect it from oily stuff like this?

How about a homebrew tung oil, pine resin mixture? Basically an improved tung oil, and tung oil would be an improvement on linseed oil.

Whoops, I did NOT realize that this had been moved. I will have to pay better attention.

You asked, we answered.
I don't recommend any kind of oil. It soaks in and softens/discolors the stag.
