what do most of you carry your keys?

okay, here's a goofy one. i used to carry a Maxx (i should've NEVER sold it), and it was quite a large-handled knife as you all very well know. i preferred to carry it clipped in my right front pocket. in my jeans and Dickies, the knife went just about all the way to the bottom of the pocket, and when i had keys in there, they would scrape against the handle. unsettling to say the least, i resigned myself to carry my keys in my left pocket. i HATE that, but i didn't want to damage my knife.

with other, thicker models, i don't like having my keys in there simply because they're difficult to reach, having to squeeze my hand past my knife to retrieve them. i thought about getting one of those metal clips/fobs and fastening it to one of my belt loops, but one of those is already being occupied by my wallet chain.

maybe this isn't a big deal for anyone, but for me, i almost demand that both my keys and my knife occupy my dominant pocket, since it's so convenient. where do you carry yours usually? same pocket? opposites?

I've experimented with a lot of different arrangements, but the one I've stuck with for more than a year now is to keep my folder (Camillus Aftermath) in my strong-side rear pocket and my keys in my strong-side front pocket.

When I was keeping them both in the strong-side front pocket I used a sort of key case to limit they amount of damage they would do to the knife.

i dont carry many keys on my ring so i use a carabiner and clip it to the belt loop near my left back pocket then to keep them from making noise and banging into things i tuck the keys into the pocket with the carabiner clipped to the belt loop. Its quiet i dont have a lot of keys so its not uncomfortable to sit on and my knives stay unscratched.

hmm.. that sounds about right. for whatever reason, i would occasionally carry my Maxx in my left rear pocket, which, looking back on things makes absolutely no sense. slow to draw, weak hand side. i guess i avoided my right rear pocket because my wallet resides there, but now that i give it some thought, it seems as if they could have peacefully coexisted.

that sounds good too, Wasz. can you get to your keys without a lot of trouble that way? no fear of them becoming unclipped, or lost?

always saparated: knife clipped in front or back pants-pocket, with nothing else in that pocket. keys always in jacket-pocket, or keys in left pants-pocket when not wearing a jacket. when wallet is involved in carry too: knife in front pants-pocket, keys in left-pantspocket, wallet in right back-pocket. simple as that.

I have my keychain on a braided shoe lace thing along with a small SAK, and Pulsar II, in my right-front. There seems to be enough shoe lace to keep it from scraping a knife clipped inside my pocket.

I am left handed so if there is a knife in my right pocket it is usually on the smaller side like a Kershaw Scallion.

Ever since I lost my Camillus Heat, I don't clip knives to my back pocket.

Right now I keep my cell phone cliped to the side of my waist, my keys fall to the bottom of my right pocket and my primary knife is cliped to the inside of that pocket. On my left front side pocket is loose change and misc junk.

I also have a small retractable belt key ring which I've I've secured to my box cutter for work. Of all my items that gets the most use and I keep it in my left back pocket. Because its teathered to me, I don't have to worry about losing it. A retractable key holder might be a good option for you too.

Wallet: left front pocket;
folder: right front pocket;
keys: on a carabiner, about 4:00 o'clock, through which my belt is looped.

Carabiner is clip up so the keys rest securely at the bottom.

The key ring itself is a big split ring with keys, prybaby, pill case, Fox 40 whistle, Photon II, Victorinox Classic, and glowring. Not really noisy with everything jammed together. :)

You're on the wrong side of the country to have seen it :) Ask anyone from New York -- it's pretty common around here. Harder for the pickpockets to get you!

I've been known to carry a coin purse sized wallet with just cash in it in a shirt pocket to handle small purchases, so I don't have to reveal where my real wallet is.

Small plastic spring clip on a swivel. They sell them at Walmart for a couple dollars. Back in Automotive, buy the key-grinding machine. Clip to my belt loop and leave them dangling if outside, tucked in my back pocket at work. Actually, move to my left front pocket at work as I now have my Surefire A2 in my back pocket. I've had to replace one, but they usually last 4-5 years. Unlike a carabiner, it's got a swivel. Like the carabiner, you can clip them anywhere (like to hang them up at the end of the day)

I change me key arrangement that my "chains" have developed multiple personalities of their own.
Great thread.
As I have mentioned before, I just can't get this situation under control. Either I have too much to carry, not enough to carry, or the problem as to where to carry!
I'll keep checking with you fellows and maybe somebody will have a the proverbial "bright idea"!

I carry them in my left pocket, but then they scratch my Surefire! :(

I've been thinking of carrying them in my FatBoy more and more.

I carried a CUDA MAXX for a long time... I also need keys and folder in right front pocket. I arrived at a solution years ago that I use for all my folders...

What I do is take scrap leather and make a pocket sheath with two compartments. The sheath/pouch matches the shape of the pocket, ie, straight up and down in front and then curved to the rear, like half a capital U, which means you just have to stitch around everywhere but the top to make a leather pocket liner (thin leather) and then one up and down line a little forward of center, creating a nice folder sized pocket, leaving the other for... your keys!

This has worked great for me for years. I used to just punch holes and use monofilament, but now have finally bought a leather stiching awl for $7 at the craft shop. I have about three or four I have made for my different EDC knives over the years.

These things are great because your folder is always in the right position for fast deployment, you don't have to have the clip visible so its truly low profile, your keys don't scratch the knife, and nothing jingles or shifts around.

DRider,
