just wanting to know what all you Beckerheads use to sharpen your Beckers.

i've been trying to master the india stone. I use Lucas gun oil for a lube

I have zero experience with free-hand.

But I can get it done with an Edge Pro Apex 4(and a Pyrex™ casserole dish:D)

i'm very curious about this sharpening system... no motors. looks good for many blade shapes, portable.

though i'm considering a belt system soon. nothing like a baeder, but perhaps something a little more slick than a $20-30 harbor freight :>

Just bought the Worksharp knife and tool sharpener, gonna convex my bk9 with it. I to have zero free hand experience.

Free hand with either a diamond rod, a ceramic rod, or more recently for a controlled convex, mouse pad and wet/dry sandpaper.

If you want to see the EP in action, here is a link to forum member ankerson's youtube channel. He has a video series of him sharpening with this system.

I use a hard arkansas stone to finish my blade but use a diamond sharpener to set the edge if it is extremely dull. most times I can just touch it up on the arkansas stone. I do all my sharpening by hand to.

Spyderco ceramic stones finished off with a leather strop loaded with Flex Cut Gold.

I use my WorkSharp Knife and Tool Sharpener when my Beckers get dull then use my Spyderco Triangle Sharpmaker to maintain them.

Lansky Delux sharpening system...

Do you have a 'method' for getting the clamp in the same place to maintain the same angle each time you sharpen a knife? I JUST got one and haven't had to sharpen any single knife multiple times. Or do you find this to not be a problem?

Thanks.

What are the benefits of convexing the edge other than the sharpness of the edge that you can attain? And out of curiosity, does anyone here use a standard kitchen steel on their Beckers?

Today the UPS man brought me a Worksharp Knife and Tool Sharpener. Pretty much a mini, handheld belt sander with angle guide. And while I feel it leaves much to be desired for folder-sized knives, it LOOOOVES Beckers!!

I just finished cleaning and polishing the BK9 (Thanks to whoever it was that mentioned Nevr-Dull!) and it had yet to have any sort of workable edge. A few swipes through the Worksharp and it had a mean edge. The BK2 edge was drastically improved and the Necker took to it like a duck to water also.

This device is pricey ($70) and it has its pluses and minuses as I just said. But the pluses are in the right area. The knives it doesn't sharpen well are what I can do good on a diamond stone with some oil, and the stuff I can't sharpen on a stone due to size/thickness sharpens easily on the Worksharp.

It's also powered by electricity, which some may not like in a SHTF scenario.

I used stones and leather for years but I caved last year at a gunshow and bought a Warthog V-Sharp Classic and this thing is awesome, I sharpen everything from machetes to pocket knives with it to a hair splitting edge. 1/4" thick blades no problem. 17,20 and 25 degree settings. It comes with 325 grit diamondstones & finishing steels. It has really impressed me.

Same exact process here .... Flexcut gold is the real deal. Recently got a duel muslin wheel polisher put the flex cut gold on one wheel black on the other... It really makes you feel lazy lol
