What do we really use and what for???

1. EDC at home, work, or in the car. Spyderco Delica, Victorinox Recruit
2. Hiking- Day hiking Victorinox Hiker
3. Backpacking- Remote camping and well established trail with plenty of people. Victorinox Hiker plus a Becker BK7 or Blackjack #1-7 if I'm wanting fire.
4. Travel/Work Tools Victorinox Electrician Plus
There's a Leatherman Blast that stays in a SOE pouch on my gear bag that goes in the truck and into work with me. It goes in my pack when climbing, since I use the pliers fairly frequently. A Busse Basic 9 comes out when I need a chopper.

and why
Keeping it simple, practical, easy to maintain, easy to replace, and limited to particular knives that I really like. Nothing special about what I've got now, but I've yet to wish I was carrying something else.

You said it well my friend!

mtwarden,

Is that fruit punch in your platty? I thought I was the only one who did that on the trail. If so, you have good taste.

fruit punch Gatorade (powdered)- my wife insisted we try it and now I have to admit I favor it over both original and orange :)

OK, I'll play (but don't have pics to post).

1. EDC at home, work, or in the car: Silver ALOX SAK Soldier most of the time, also Leatherman Wave.

2. Hiking- Day hiking: had the Soldier plus a Becker Necker out last weekend.

3. Backpacking: Afraid I haven't done anything hardcore in a while, but it would likely be the Soldier and/or Wave and either the Becker Necker or the RC-4.

4. Travel/Work Tools: SAK soldier and Wave, generally.

Take it easy,

Brian Andrews bitterroot is a pretty versatile blade and even though it still has that new knife smell, I'm rather smitten with it still.

B. Andrews bushcrafter obtaiend from JCavSD is still one that I really like too. Although, I'm ashamed to admit that last weekend I did some pretty heavy re-shaping of the handle with a dremel tool. Now I adore it! I don't have any pictures of the reshaped handle, below is the unmodified version in green micarta. Also, I really like the Culberson EDC. Its not flashy or anything. Just a very aggressively thinned out profile that makes a great cutter and carver.

Breeden cub is still one I often reach for and take along. Its sort of right in between the culberson and B. Andrews bushcrafter in weight and size of handle. Like the B. Andrews, I took the dremel to it as well and shaved a ramp at the front part of the blade for extra comfort. My CUB was owned at one time or another by half of W&SS. I have to give JeffH the big kudos for putting an extra aggressive thin convex edge. This one cuts great!

OHT trecker. For me, this is the one. I even love the serrated tip blade! Compliments my fixed blade which is always plain edged. I appreciate its larger saw then the compact models. For the longest time I EDC'd a Rucksak gifted to me by Fonly. The Ruck subsequently was gifted to another deserving person (actually the guy who wove the hemp bag in the picture below). I owned a farmer, but I ended up gifting that to DocCanada after he managed to coax me into my first solo handrill coal.
