What do ya'll eat?

The last time I went camping I took some water, fishing gear, Izula, and .22lr pistol. Damn near starved to death. Jk, but I was some kinda hungry. I was able to catch a few perch the second day but that 1st day of making my shelter and camp with no food was killer. Next time I will take at least one ration of food so I am not misarable.

That's one thing I liked about Les Stroud's former survival show. He often had trouble finding food, was hungry, and made no secret about his discomfort.

When I'm camping, I try to take more food than I need, generally packing light otherwise, and then taking as much food as I can. Even If I plan to supplement when I'm in the woods, I like knowing that I'm prepared for longer than I'm planning. I kinda like coming back, and still having a bit of food left over.

That's actually very interesting. I wonder how many people away from the East Coast / Mid-Atlantic Region even know what Old Bay is...

Hell, I can't remember where I read about it, but people were talking about just the olive oil being basically a whole food all by itself.

I'm out in California, and I can tell you that I've never heard of Old Bay before! I could understand the way the butcher looked at Shotgunner for asking him where the Old Bay is located. I had the came look on my face when I first saw Old Bay listed in this thread!

Old Bay works great for grilled chicken as well. Also add it to tuna for lunch. I like the foil packets of tuna--great for camping.

MRE's are nice but too heavy and bulky for extended backpacking trips. I prefer the Mountain House type freeze dried foods (expensive), instant oatmeal for breakfast, jerky, and of course...trail mix. Trail mix is my primary food group when backpacking.

I think he was in Africa when he tried the native "hunger suppressant", I think he called it a beetlenut or something like that..it was some kind of hallucinigen that the natives love...I felt bad for Les...

When you're out on a hike and burning a lot of calories I think anything tastes pretty good. I remember me and a couple of guys just mowing down canned tuna with bread and nothing else.
