What do y'all think of the Hell Razor

John, I have two, one with the standard handles and one with the Magnum handles. I prefer the Magnum handle. These are very nice knives and feel light in the hand for their size. I prefer satin or double cut finishes but because of the grooves the Hell Razor only comes with a finish. Go to this thread to see a photo of my standard handle Hell Razor!

The HR is my first Busse, and I have never owned a better knife. Yesterday, I spent 11 hours clearing/thinning the woods around my VA home...dropping six large pine trees, burning around 12 that i previously dropped and clearing young growth. I always carry a knife ready to deal with the occasional copperhead or rabid hampster. On two occasions my Stihl magnum chainsaw became stuck dropping large pines. My buddy could not belive how quickly the HR chopped around the sight the saw was stuck and freed the chainsaw. On hundreds of occasions, I would grab a young growth tree or tree like weed and the HR made short work on removing it and bringing it to my burn piles. After extensive use, a few runs on a wetstone brought the edge back within about two minutes. I did not have my ceramic stick and had to rely upon by friends wet stone to resharpen the blade after cleaning.

I have years of experience in operating in Central/South America and am very concerned about a tool being too large or heavy to comfortably add to my gear. The attributes of the HR make it worth carrying the extra weight. I definately give the blade a thumbs up. The Kydex shealth that I ordered from Okuden is superior as well.

Downside: The finish. Unless you are a collector and your blade will be on display in your safe, you will wear the finish off through use. This makes absolutely no difference to me as my blade is a user and I have no concern for asethics. These knives are beautiful, but they are after all tools. If you intend to use yours and don't mind the finish coming off, then you will not be dissapointed. I am not at all dissapointed in my HR, I just wanted to bring this point up for those that may be.

If you have additional questions, then let me know.

How much is difference is it between the Hell Razor and the SFNO? is it just the grooves and one is 3/16'' & the other is 1/4''

any one have a comparison picture of the two knives together ?

I am with you on this question. I doubt I will ever get a SFNO but the HR does seem quite similar - so I ask the question as well - What are the major differences?

Just an FYI.
The SFNO is .220 thick and not 1/4" (.250)
SFNO is Saber ground and slightly heavier, 16.5oz vs HR 15oz.
I have both but have used neither preferring my SHSH.

I like the OD!

Good morning John. I also have two Hell Razors. One HR with standard grips and one with mags. I for one prefer the standard handle. The standard is my user and the mag is in the safe. Most prefer mags but I like things trim tight at my side. I couldn't tell you how many items I have paid extra to have trimmed-down. The standards strike me as a bargain in that regard. Somewhat along the same lines as the wife's forty dollar per month fitness center payment! IMO, the Hell Razor is the best feeling knife I've ever held, but I'm still more traditional and prefer the looks of the Satin Jack, however.

Opinions Vary,

The Hell Razor is a good looking knife no doubt, "Fancy"

Jerry got famous making simple basic strong reliable knives.

The Badger Attack, Steel Heart, Mean Street.

He then went to the Head of this class of knives with the introduction of INFI and the Battle Mistress.

He had made "Fancy" knives in the past and those knives are now serious collectors knives with a good to great value.

But, When I think of Busse I think Strong, Rugged, Sharp, and reliable,
Not Fancy, nice, or cute!

I guess I am limited in how I think.

My first and only Busse is a Hell Razor. I love it!
After use the finish began to wear off. And since I prefer the look of Metal with Black slabs, I decided to stip it.
I started with some chemical stripper.

The black crinkle bubbled nicely.

But after letting it sit for a while then wiping it off, the metal was still showing very black...

So after some wire wheel work and some polishing it turned out nicely.
Although the metal under the black was not smooth. You can kinda see it is full of tiny craters. (except where the bevels are ground)

I am very pleased with the way it turned out. :D

Gunsite, looks awesome! I've been hoping to see a pic of a naked HR.

I'm guessing that any of the coated INFI blades are going to look very similiar underneath when the coating is removed? I mean the "small dimples" and such...

Anyone got a good close-up of some bare infi (home done jobs?) I'm really thinking about taking the very worn coating off of my BM-e... :D :D

Cool! Once my HR gets worn down, I may have to strip it. That looks great! I still need to find a friend with a bead blaster.

The HR is much better in person, the pics don't do it justice. I usaly like plain simple knives and was a little skeptical about the coragated bevels. They stand out much less in person and have really grown on me! I think they do cut down on friction when choping in wood, but probably not so much in soft material like meat, but then they dont seem to hurt with the soft stuff either. The thumb reliefs cut in the spine (what is the proper word for those?) are both very useful and help give a lot of control when choking up on it. The mag grips on mine make for one of the best handles I have ever used! Over all the HR is one sweet knife, and my favorite for anything other than field dresing game. Got my BA3 for that!

That looks too cool! Jerry, how about a naked option on the next blade?

I agree. Very useful feature.
