What do you bring on a trip (flying) when you only carry-on?

That is a sad thought.

Luckily, I have approximately 10 other Classic SDs with blades still attached! They're stashed all over the house, including one in my wife's purse. I feel like one should never be more than 5 feet away from a Classic SD.

Phew, what a relief. As someone who never leaves the house without a Classic, it would be like amputating one's limbs to cut off the blade. Did you know there is a "jet setter" model, that is just a scissors and bottle opener/phillips?

I had no idea about the Jetsetter model! That's exactly what I needed, and now I feel a little bad that I mutilated my knife. Thank you sir!

I just always check a bag. I know many supposedly find it convenient to only have carry on, but for me it seems like a huge PITBs all around. I simply check a bag, and then have a backpack as a carry-on that I can stow under the seat and never even have to fool with the overhead compartment. Also, my backpack seems to more often than not get kicked to the side going through security these days, so I don't need to add to the hassle.

Don't carry any knife on the plane. You could check your luggage with knife or mail it to your destination. It is just not worth the hassle.
Pretty much this. Airport security collects enough shiny things without me adding to their collection. Even when I put knives in checked baggage as a rule it's nothing I can't replace or afford to replace.

First, gotta ask yourself, what mechanical tinkering do you need to do during a flight
If none, then the question truly is a matter of SD
TSA allows tools UNDER 7 inches
There it is. Use your imagination

The terrorists of 911 used box cutters
Yet you are allowed to carry 6 inch long screwdrivers
And 4 inch long scissors.
But you can't have a swiss army classic cause it has a knife!!

So I mean...

🤔

There are contextual confiscations however
Example, you have a luggage full of clothes, shoes, cables and one long screwdriver
It doesn't make sense. So they may ask you about that

I don't fly so it's pretty much a non-issue for me, but still one I consider when the subject arises. Those who carry a removable razor knife handle then buy blades at your destination: do you find a single blade for sale? Do you buy a pack? What do you do with all the blades before your return flight? What do you do with the carry blade that probably saw negligible use during the trip (at least hardly enough to warrant disposal)?

Shave before you leave 🙃

I always check a bag. One pair of my size 14 EE shoes takes up almost an entire carry on bag. God forbid I wanna bring boots, they need a separate suitcase.

I usually either hide knives under the insoles of the aforementioned shoes, or put them in a taco pouch and then box depending. Never had one go missing this way.

For Carry-On? Nothing. I got stopped and grilled once if I was carrying a "Swiss Army Knife". I had no idea what he was talking about. Turned out that one of my USBs had rounded ends and looked like a SAK on the X-Ray. If I were to carry anything on carry-on it would have be something that I couldn't care less about if I got it taken away.

In the check-in luggage of course I've packed folders, fixed blades just about anything on international flights with no issues.
