What do you carry, and how do you carry it?

Old Case Trapper and/or Stockman in right front pocket... Anything larger goes on the belt at the right hip location. The only execption is my Dozier, which is worn in a horizonal kydex sheath on my belt at the right front location.

On my belt, left side, I carry a 6" overall length, ram horn handled fixed blade I made out of D2. On the right I carry a large Swiss Army knife in a belt sheath and in my left front pocket I have a Queen D2 mountain man folder with red stag scales. I switch the pocket knife on occasion.

I like to carry my home-made quick release sheath with my Schrade LB8. I know this sheath is illegal in some States like California...so if you are about to get a shake-down...just replace the knife into the sheath in the non-quick release mode...and let the cop know your carrying a blade..so he can remove it. I like this sheath because...no.1 you can have your lockback opened and locked ready to use in your hand quickly with one hand movement...and no.2 the sheath is worn in a horizontal position on your waist...instead of the vertical sheath.
Why this sheath is considered illegal by some..makes no sense to me. But a lot of things are changing in our Country that causes me to shake my head in disbelief. Any way...I'm not proposing anyone break the laws you live under, whether they make sense or not. I love my quick release...and my lockback folder.

I usually carry small tacticals, like my Spyderco Jester and SOG Blink. However, when I am dressed up or going somewhere fancy, I wear either my Gerber Silver Knight wood handle or AG Russell lockback(forgot the model number), with quince wood scales, and for my bigger folder, my Kershaw Splinter with quince wood scales. I'm thinking about carrying my stockman for EDC.

Don't suppose you have any pics of that sheath? Or, barring that, a more detailed description? I'm not familiar with this sort of sheath, but it sounds interesting.

As for legality, I feel your pain. I live in a state that considers anything more potentially dangerous than a pair of nail clippers a "lethal weapon".

My two favorite traditional knives to carry are my PJ Tomes 109X (two blade, one slip one lockback) and my Tony Bose single blade. The Tomes I carry in my pocket with the soft leather sheath PJ provides with the knife and the Bose I carry in a rayskin flapped sheath I bought for it. In fact I have pouches or sheaths for all of my tradional knives.

Haven't figured out how to add attachments to this reply, so I'll send you an e-mail w/attachments...I can handle that.
Breifly...it's a horizontal fitted sheath on your belt that as you draw out your knife, a rivet forces the blade open and locked fully drawn...and is a simple, quick one-handed draw. This works beautiful on the older lockback knives...and especially the ones that have the tight springs. I like also the fact the knife is worn horizontal on the belt...and can be worn for both right or left handed. You insert the knife into the sheath with the blade partially open...so as it's drawn out...the blade works against a rivet, pivoting the blade fully opened. If you don't need the quick draw mode...you just insert the knife into the sheath closed...and it is then drawn closed as well. This works on any folder..as long as you fit the sheath to the blade you want to use. The knife with the right sheath will never fall out. I personally carry all my folders this way, for the last 20 years and have made my own sheaths to each knife, and haven't used the conventional vertical set pouch sheaths since. This to me is...by far... the only way to carry a folder.
