What do you carry daily in the city?

Pair of gloves

Only one person commented on gloves. When I read that, I slapped my forhead and said - yep, I need to be carrying those.

Here's a list of items that I would add, but first, take your wallet, keys, cellphone and knife out of your bag and keep them on your person. If someone takes your bag from you, they know where to go for the rest of your stuff and you won't be able to afford the ice pack for the headache they're gonna give ya.

Keep in mind, that if there is a major breakdown/attack where you are located, people will be flooding hospitals, and anyplace else where they might be able to get help, which includes a drug store and supermarket. Your goal, is to stay out of those places and away from danger.

Multitool like leatherman, swiss tool, etc.
FAK
Duct tape can be wrapped around flashlights, match tubes and even pens.
Water purification of some kind
10-15' of surgical tubing for retrieving water from difficult to reach sources.
N95 mask or better
protective eyewear
leather gloves
Sewing kit/fishing kit
phone card
cash

Screw the sheeple, get a good blade and carry it. Wear shoes that will work in the office, as well as walking miles on the street. The fishing kit will do a lot more than catch fish. Lots of pigeons to eat, shelters to secure, etc. Have good stores in your home and if you have an office, put in food and water, as well as a change of clothing.

Right now I live in a rural area and work 20 miles away in another rural area. My plan in an emergency has been to stay where I work; there are more resources there, my wife works there too, and my daughter's daycare is near there.

In the courier bag that I use for a briefcase, I have:

Leatherman old Wave
Bic
LED keychain light
Nalgene bottle
phone
work stuff

However, I will be starting a new job in September that involves a 50 mile commute to a suburb near a large city. my new plan in an emergency is to rendesvous with my wife and daughter at her (my former) work. Now I have to think about more serious things to keep in my car if I get stranded or have to abandon the car.

Someone had a link to a guy's PSK on his website and he included a memory card with copies of important documents, a list of emergency contacts, etc. For what the smaller capacity SD memory cards cost now, it's a great idea. A 128 or 256mb card would hold a kinds of personal info.

Just a side note on the flashlight topic. I bought the Nite-Ize LED upgrade for my AA mini maglite and have been happy with it. Cheaper than buying a streamlight or surefire. Not as bright but does the job. You can purchase them from Wal-Mart for $4.99 or about $9.99 if you get the combo pack with the variable mode tail cap to replace the original on the flashlight.

Also, I noticed a lot of people said they carry pen(s). I carry one pen and it's a Fisher space pen. I only have to carry one, and maybe a refill, and I know it will always work in any condition.

On my person?

Sak Rucksack
Leatherman Wave
Sak huntsman
Psk
Mini Mag
Noma led light(in psk)
ferro rod
`once in a while, my master hunter
lighter

In my trunk is a full kit, spare lights, plugs, tomahawk, crowbar, Mora, jumpers ect, ect.

Life must be a lot easier here in the country.

Just replaced my EDC folder from a Trident TF1 to a Kershaw Mini Cyclone (Ti/ZDF 189). Anyone that likes A/O folders should check this one out!

Either a Colt Officer or S&W .40 Tactical, both with a full clip of Black Talons...pipe is always empty. At night, one in the pipe. We've got a bad Coyote infestation here, along with a few bears.

A nice little H-D LED light that fits on my key ring...I have no idea who makes it, it was a gift from another Harley rider. Very small but bright though.

Keys

Cell phone

Money clip

Zippo Lighter (and those nasty habit cigarettes that go with them)

$ 50 chip from the Sands, also on key ring (for good luck)

Wallet

Everything, except for the Semi autos fits nicely in my pockets.

All vehicles have fire extinguishers, fak's, full size Mag lights, & SOG multi tools. The trucks also have jumper cables, 30 ft. of 3/8" logging chain and a pair of Mules.

I normally run my USP 9mm fullsize with 3 spare mags, a Blade Tech MLEK folder, SAK explorer, photon, some sort of surefire type light, wallet, small adventure medical kit, and my phone. I keep a go bag behind the seat that's basically a luxury survival kit, in a Kelty Redwing pack, and a belt of 12 gauge to go along with the Vang Comp 590A1 in the roof rack.

When I go to Seattle, I switch to an auto in the roof, such as an AK, my Scout M1A, or my M1 carbine. When I drive interstate I'll take a bolt gun scout since it's mostly flatland, but here on the island, or around Tacoma, the pump gun gets the nod.

I keep my truck stocked with water, a sleeping bag and mat, extra lights, food, and hygine gear. I never know if I'm going to get stranded on the mainland, and if I'm alone I see no reason to pay for a hotel when I can crash out in the back of my truck under the canopy.

I like these in-town EDC threads. They're a good reminder for us all that it can happen any time, any place.

I live in a suburb next to a city, both of which have a smaller town feel and mentality.

On my person, I carry:
-Leatherman Squirt P4
-BM Griptilian 551 D2
-Case small Trapper CV
-Streamlight (small 'n handy, rides on keychain)
-wallet
-keys
-glasses rag
-water bottle (with water :p )

In my car's trunk, I've got the beginnings of a survival rig:
-spare clothes, mostly cold-weather gear; non-cotton base layer, socks, mittens, beanie; fleece pullover, wind breaker, nylon zip-off pants. This was made specifically for winter time, but will stay during summer, too. They are folded into a large trash bag which is packed into a duffel bag.
-antifreeze, tow rope, jumper cables, etc. (basic vehicle maintenance and roadside repair/recovery).
-cat litter, 30 pounds (helps with traction if stuck in an icy/wet spot)
-various other odds'n'ends
As I heal from surgery, I'll add to the gear.

I need to add some basic tools to my vehicle, a good FAK, and make up a decent, pocket-sized FAK to carry on my person. Thanks to this thread, I'm also gonna start carrying a bandana, one of Eric's 550 cord bracelets, the afore-mentioned small FAK and a Zippo or a reasonable facsimile. In town, I like to balance ease of transport with sufficient preparedness

On me:

Mobile phone

Paracetomal

Small knife such as Mcusta folder in sheath, or Spyderco Delica, or a Case lockback(copperlock)

Skunlights micto flaslight(but powerful beam and a tiny solar charged carry)

In briefcase or rucksack: some snacks and work material(to be thrown away in an emergency!) Water bottle 50cl, chord/string.Plasters. Small fixed blade from Bark River Classic Lite Hunter (very lightweight stainless and strong) Or Woodland, even smaler but in A2 steel.Sheathes are tight and safe too. Lighter and face mask in case of toxic fumes or dust or pathogens!

I'm going to follow marcinek's suggestion and add a bandana to the bag. Never know when that might come in handy.

As for the other stuff, I'm going to keep it very basic while I'm out, and stock up at home.

I like these in-town EDC threads. They're a good reminder for us all that it can happen any time, any place.

Chances are it will happenwhere you spend the majority of your time. Being in earthquake country, it can and has happened at home, at work, and commuting. It's interesting to note that there aren't enough city personnel on hand at any one time to depend on for personal help during a major disaster-- the numbers would be impossible. If you were lost in the woods, you would have all kinds of people available to help find you, but if the Big One hits, you're left to your own resources in the middle of the Big City.

Leatherman Blast
Leatherman C301 (wish I had gotten the non-serrated model)
BIC lighter or two
cash - whenever possible, a couple $20's and a roll of quarters
compass/whistle thingy
jacket w/ plenty pockets, watch cap, wool glove liners
contact list - family, friends etc.
a few band-aids
extra pack of smokes (no lectures please. I smoke and if SHTF, I'm gonna want one!!)

Looks like I need to put together a small FAK.
