What do you carry legally?

1. LEOs are generally a very poor source of information on the law. Not a flame to any LEO here of course, it's just the truth. Ask several different officers a legal question and you will likely get several different answers.

2. Do not trust legal information you recieve online, unless it is from an official state, county, etc. website.

Yeah the knife laws in Australia do suck... I live in Sydney and all knives are banned..... except if you have a valid reason for carrying them. Eg: on your way to and from work and you need a knife at work, going fishing, going hunting etc.....

So i'm always on my way to or from work, or going fishing, or going hunting etc........:D

here in upstate NY (Oneida Co.), there are no restrictions other than the usual: no push knives, daggers, autos, etc..

i typically carry a very small slipjoint (Case Peanut or Baby Butterbean) and a 3-4" fixed blade (Helle or Karesuando puukos).

maybe it's because people don't know what they are, or just because i usually look like i just came out of the woods, but noone even bats an eye, LEO's in public places (mall, town, etc.) included. i figure it's kind of like guns, it's still rural enough that people don't fear guns and knives. we still have our fair share of gunracks in trucks with guns in them.

Lucky you, where I am, I mananged to frighten a lady with my chive:rolleyes:

Living in the Czech Republic, none of my knives are illegal to carry. The biggest knife I carry (heck, it's the biggest knife I own) is a Spydie Endura and I carry it anywhere I want, any time I want.

The only knife laws in Canada are: No Auto, No balisong, No double-edged push-dagger, no knuckle knives.

You can carry almost any folder, or fixed, any size you please as long as it isn't a "weapon". Some cities may have local ordinances, but really the only law restricting knife carry is if it's a "weapon".

However, if it's "concealed" it's up to the LEO if your excuse as a tool makes it a weapon or not.

I don't think I've ever carried legal in the U.K
No I don't think I have.

What the hell is wrong with people -- particularly people in governments?! Are they saying, essentially, that no one will be allowed to have a knife at his disposal except in the privacy of his home?! What is next, banning any device capable of starting FIRE?!

Who is behind this asinine law? What mandate do they claim to have for outlawing the most basic tool there is, short of a club? Knives belong to HUMANITY. To take away the ability to have a cutting edge is to strip away a huge hunk of our common human heritage. This is sickening.

Is this law sure to be enacted?

I agree Jeffrey! This is the outcome of a completely insane political knee jerk reaction to the tragic stabbing death of a young italian tourist in Copenhagen last month.
There was so much media attention and "public outcry" that the politicians decided to protect us against ourselves!
It is mainly directed against young "unadjusted" (criminal) second generation immigrants who do carry and (mis)use knives, but will hit all of us.
It's basically collective punishment of a whole people to hit a few s$itheads who should be dealt with otherwise anyway.

Now, I don't think the police will be terribly focused on searching a seventy year old grandfather for knives, neither do I think they will search me - but the sad part is that they can now and they don't need a warrant........:(
Will I stop carrying knives because of this? Why yes of course!:p I am an obidient citizen of a democratic country! :barf:
