What do you carry with your multi?

I guess the real idea behind this thread is to find out if there are any other pocket/ belt tools that would help to complete the multi tool idea of having a toolbox/survival kit at the ready at all times.

For instance; At work (I manage a tool and die shop) I carry a LM Surge in a leather pouch with:

- 6" adjustable wrench
- 6" flexible steel scale (ruler)
- Carbide tipped hook scribe
- "Marks-a-Lot red marker (Large felt tip pen that works great on metal)
- Flashlight (1AA)

I also carry the bit-kit that works with my Surge and a couple of different saw blades that fit in the Surge's blade/file holder.

At home I usually just carry the Surge with the 1AA flashlight, a 4" adjustable wrench and a Sharpie. This all fits, with a couple of saw blades, in the Surge's pouch; or I just carry my LM Original Wave on my belt with the 1AA flashlight in my pocket. Anything less and I feel naked.

What am I missing?

FIXED BLADE  :D
right now I'm carrying a buck 102 :)

some consider fixed blades bulky for edc, but I like em

Until about 15 years ago, my entire EDC consisted of a Boy Scout knife, which accompanied me through school, camping, military, assorted adventures, and stuff. Somehow, I managed to have a life. Then, I discovered SAKs and Leatherman tools.

Well...OK:DAY.

(btw, I gave the scout knife to a girl friend, who promptly lost it.)

My EDC at this time consists of medium size multi tool in RF pocket, small mt clipped to a micro light in jeans coin/watch pocket, Fisher Space Pen in LF pocket, note paper and lens cleaning cloth in LR. If I am working, travelling, or anticipating the possibility of needing something more than the above with no access to a tool kit, I carry a Nite Ize Pockit stuffed with a larger mt, Mini Maglite and 6 inch adjustable wrench. Sometimes I supplement these items with a Spyderco Delica or Buck 110, but can get by without. I just like them.

These have come in handy many times, including on the road when the tools in my trunk were inaccessible (frozen trunk lock) or inconvenient (empty out the luggage in a drenching rain to get at the tools vs. hop out and in with my EDC, taking a few seconds to tighten a loose wiper blade).

So far, the above has been about all I'm willing to carry. For any other needs or emergencies, a credit card works just fine. That, I carry in my wallet. :)

It's not a bad idea to carry another screwdriver. I have some that are small pocket clip models with a reversible blade. One end is slotted and the other is Phillips. It complements models like the Charge and Surge nicely, because it has smaller sizes that those models lack (between the small bit driver and the large bit driver), plus is good for getting to recessed screws. Plus they aren't all metal which might be good for working on electrical terminals that are live.

This one has a magnet, too.

And speaking of that, this model is also not all-metal and holds 3 standard 1/4" bits, which I've used for working on typically-sized live electrical terminals. (That store has other items that may be of interest to members.)

I've also found that the Swisscards from Victorinox can be nice compliments/backups to multi-tools.

Great thread.

In addition to a wallet, comb, bandanna, etc., I have been carrying these items lately. At times, I carry a different LED flashlight, lockback knife, and multitool.

I carry a leatherman wave, a leatherman surge, spyderco native, sog flash II, sog twitch II, light my fire army swedish firesteel, a few bicks, doan tool, DMT diafold fine/extrafine, smith's diamond seration sharpener, earplugs, streamlight, EMT shears, and 2 sets of cr123 batteries. I also carry a wallet and keys.

Wow! Great responses. Ive read a little about the Fisher Space pen and it sounds like something I should definitely look into. I carry a mechanical pencil and small note pad now. I'm so used to it I forgot to mention it in my original post.

I used to carry a loupe, but stopped for some reason. I should find that thing.

Compass and emergency whistle are certainly good ideas.

What has me most intrigued is the Fenix flaslights and the little pry bar.

The 1AA flashlight I now carry is pretty nice. My wife bought it for me it's pretty bright and it's an LED. It has no brand name on it anywhere. Like I said, it's nice but the Fenix is obviously a step or two up.

The little pry-bar is such a good idea. I can make one of those at my shop out of some nice steel and perhaps add some other capabilities at the same time. Gotta study on that one.

Carrying a lockback or other single blade along with my multi doesn't sound practical to me. All my Leatherman's have nice blades.

Thanks for all the great responses. Anything else?

My typical EDC consists of a Vic STX Plus in leather sheath, mini-Maglite 2xAAA, small Bic lighter, Vic Compact SAK, ballpoint pen and notebook, wallet, and cellular phone. I used to carry a Gerber Gator 650 lockback in place of the Vic Compact, but the ingenius utility of the SAK outweighed the necessity of having a lockback knife on me at any time.

IMO, the Vic Compact complements the STX plus very well for my purposes.

Yup, I gotta agree with the SwissCard ...... I carry the Lite version in my wallet ..... has a dim Red LED and a very useful small magnifying glass ..... plus all the other usual Vic essentials ..... :)

Ya have to get a Fenix dude !! :D The latest and greatest versions use the super bright Cree LED's .... the best prices I've found are here = Fenix Store

I have the AAA, AA and 123 battery versions ..... the P1D-CE will blow you away but I have found the tiny L0D-CE is a pretty much perfect EDC !!

If you carry a Pen and Notepad, check out the Moleskine notepads and a Rotring Quattro Executive - Auto Pencil, Black and Red Ballpoints and Highlighter/Stylus all in one !!

I also always carry a Zippo lighter with a Z-Plus insert and have a Vic Mini Champ on my Key Chain with a Photon Freedom ..... :)

Well, dang! Just when I thought I was done, a whole bunch of new stuff I never knew existed has been brought to my attention.

Thanx, guys  . I'm sure you all know what this means. :(

I sewed the bottom of the side pockets on my LM Wave sheath. On one side I have a small sewing kit consisting of 3 needles, one with HD sewing thread wrapped around it, fit into part of a white Bic pen that has been cut down to fit. The other side has a small ferrocium(flint) rod, 1/4" X 2". The back pocket has 5 tinder quick tabs in a small zip-loc bag. This is sort of my minimal survival kit that is always with me.

Nice !! I keep a SwissTool in my toolbox for heavy duty work ..... and a CyberTool in my desk drawer ..... but I gotta ask, what can the WorkChamp (?) do that a SwissTool can't ??

As for the Swisschamp , I EDC it for the magnifying glass ( I've used it lots for splinters and when people have got something in their eye ) , pin and tweezers plus I often have to hold something with the Swisstools pliers while using the Swisschamps screwdriver etc.I find with those two I have most things covered although a few of the tools are duplicated .

While this may sound like heresy I carry my multitools as a back-up to everything else. My SwissChamp and SwissTool ride in my "man-purse" and briefcase, respectivley. If I can't handle a job with what I have in my pockets (usually a Kershaw Leek and a SAK Yeoman) I go for one of these.;)
