What do you carry?

My EDC's are a BM42a and a BM42as. The 42as is on lone to a bali-student of mine, who is loaning me some throwing knives (and teaching me as well :)). They get used at EVERY OPPORTUNITY for EVERYTHING.

My EDC's are either an old EDI Genesis, or CQC-7.

But, as long as we're on the topic, I've already seen 3 LCC's here... how are people responding to those? Granted, Microtech makes a F'in great knife, I'm just curious about any comments y'all have on em... handling, hassles, general feel... and Balisongman, what's the difference between regular, and 3rd Gen? By D/A do y'all mean the auto model?

Yes, DA means Dual Action (it can be opened manually or automatically) and the MA means Manual Action (just manual thumb stud, no auto). There are 4 Generations for the LCC D/A, the first one had short Ti bolsters and so when the knife was flicked a certain way the spring would break, so they extended the bolster (which means they had a bunch of CF scales already drilled for screws that had to be cut) and it was the 2nd Gen, well, the screw placement was off on the 2nd Gen so they corrected that but drilling the holes in proportional places, that is the 3rd Gen (best Gen IMO, Ti bolsters, CF scales), but the Ti would sometimes warp and that was expensive, so they went to Al for the bolsters and had them be colored black, that is the 4th Gen.

This picture shows the 1st through 4th Generations (right to left), the 2nd Gen has canvas micarta scales I believe:

I got it from this page:

The picture is obviously courtesy of Cheif. :)

Bummer they went to AL bolsters... was that just on D/A or both?
Is there anywhere you know that still sells the 3rd gen specifically?
...and of the two in the middle, which is stonewashed, which is satin?

Thanks for the info though... anything else? Any complaints about how it handles?

I believe all the manuals look like the 1st Gen but without the backspacer, since the bolster on the M/A didn't move, it had less ability to warp. You'd have to ask around to see if anyone has any 3rd Gens, apparently they are the rarest among the LCC D/As as they were the least made (but the best IMO), I use mine all the time and don't care about it's "collector's value".
Some people don't think the handles feel good in the hand, but it is a matter of opinion, the handles aren't exactly ergonomic but they are not rectangular either. Mine was difficult to fire at first (I really hurt my thumb trying to break it in) but after a while it loosens up beautifully and is perfect (at least mine is).
For those of you not familiar with them they do not have a button persay, but the bolster moves to the right (it is a bolster release auto) and no one would ever know it was an auto unless someone had told them AND showed them. :D

Gosh golly darn, that's pretty damn cool :) I guess the real question then would be which opening method was faster ...heh heh ehhhhh

Why would the Aluminum warp less than the Ti?

I honestly don't know why Al wouldn't warp like the Ti did, you could ask someone on any of the Automatic forums or MT forums.

Good question Lothar! They must have used that special secret grade Aluminum that SWAT uses on their balis:D :p

i flip between a #42 and #47 for my EDC for back up I go between a paragon ATKO 10T and the Gerber Applegate-Fairbaine combat folder

My EDC is a Microtech Mini SOCOM. Best all around knife I have ever owned. Holds an edge and the blade is a great shape.

I rotate (pun intended) between my BM 31S, MT Tachyon, BM 49-01. :D Wait a minute.... I haven't gotten those yet!!! Actually, my 42S is what I usually carry. Sometimes it's my MT Kestrel or my BM 3550S. But, as soon as any of the first three I mentioned show up, that's what I'm carrying!

For my EDC I usually carry my bm42a or my good old jag. Although it is illegal to carry them here I still do anyways. I figure that it is better to be safe and have a knife with you then not to. I mean you never know whats going to happen and when you might need a knife.

Customized LCC D/A.., an older deep belly bowie which happens to fit in Clay's IWB set-up ...and a B-SC,Inc. boot knife.
