What do you collect? Country, style, brand? Mostly users or not?

So far, Benchmade, CRK, Spyderco and Zero Tolerance. All folders, all are users. I cap my collection to under 10 knives because the is no reason to have more knives than that. When I get round 10 I start looking at what knives can go, I sell a few to make room for new ones. Once I have 10 knives that I cant part with I may have to increase my cap size or stop collecting.

My largest collection of any single style of knife would be my Golden, CO made Spydercos. I have to date:

PM2
Manix LW
UKPK CTS-BD1
UKPK Gin-1
Chinook 3
Leafstorm
T-Mag
CF Dodo
Inlay Vesuvius
Blackhawk

I will be buying a WTC in the next few days.

My enjoyment come from the use and maintenance of my small number of knives, not in shear number owned. I tried collecting, it actually made me feel less enjoyment than doing it this way.

This is kinda how I feel about it. I don't really like having anything that won't be used...probably why I won't ever pick up a wood inlayed Sebenza...just don't know if I could ever use it and mess it up; however, I have a plain small and large with the purpose of hanging on to it for years and using and passing down. I felt like I was starting to amass this accumulation of folders to the point where it became almost stressful to pick out an EDC for the day so I've since thinned the herd some and really focused on hanging on to knives that I think will stand the test of the time...though I still have a couple that are just great cutters though not really classics. I've really grown to like and appreciate knives that can be used for years and rejuvenated/refurbished by the manufacturer that's why I'll hang on to my BM classics and CRKs. I think I like it better this way having a few higher end pieces to use and become attached to rather than having a different EDC for every week of the year. Plus I feel pretty satisfied now and don't have that constant hunger to buy the "next knife" every other week.

Sypderco Military (S90V)
Spyderco Paramilitary II (M390)
Spyderdo Paramilitary II (S35VN)
ZT350TS (S30V)
ZT561 (Elmax)
CRK Sebenza 21 (Black Galbon inlays) (S35VN)
CRK Sebenza 21 (Wilson Combat version) (S35VN

I plan to add a Benchmade 940 next

I pick up any knife that strikes my fancy and that I can afford. I like all kinds of knives, from traditional slip joints to tacticool mall ninja stuff. I can't say I have a preference for any particular style, steel, handle material, country of origin, etc. I use every knife I own (not all at the same time, of course :D).

agree.
I buy what looks nice to me, any type or country. but after number of knives I found that I interested also in different high end knife steels. so if I see steel coming to market I try to find design I like with this steel. lately I was started gathering "survival knives". I will try all of them when I will be outdoor. I used number of them but bought 5 or 6 new one that I did not have chance to try. I am not selling and not keeping my knives in the box. I try to use every one. which bring me also to collect the one that fit into my hand. so most of them of smaller size. If it too big for me I give it to my husband to use.

Whenever I find a particular knife that I use and like, I buy 10 of them - just in case they stop making them. Some people call that a collection, I consider them a stockpile.

Damn I just can't stop collecting knives, fixing them, and make put them back into a factory state. I have been using knives all my life and have collected only for about a year, but so far I have about 150 or so to date. You pretty much name it, I got something into it. From Barry Wood/Irie folder to Ek combat knives. From Fox non assisted folders to Kershaw 'SpeedSafe' folding knives, to WWII Bayonette's. Granted many of them I have rec'd from people over the years and restored as best as I could, but I love all knives. Anything that can cut or stab with a blade to it, I am all about.

Lately - Busse, Spyderco and Zero Tolerance.

I collect but have some, usually doubles, that are users.

A fun read for me, it's interesting seeing others thoughts. I like the guy that buys the "stock pile".
Good stuff!

If anything I would say I "collect" whatever I find, and cheaply.I only have a couple of the "higher end" knives, which really are not high end,Bench Made, H&K, bark river, everything else is just kind of what I have picked up here and there.

I kind of have a bit of a interest for Auto knives and I am kinda trying to collect 1 example of each type, picklock, dual action, swing guard, otf etc...

Most of my knives never see more than very light duty, and the favorites among my small circle of regular EDC knives also have an unused counterpart in the collection. I collect whatever appeals to me, be it for function or form, but usually both. I typically look for a new knife which has some grind, style, material, color, finish or other quality not already present in my collection. I don't necessarily collect all variants of a model, or by any particular country or brand. I have some customs and also a small selection of the inexpensive novelty or "mall ninja" pieces. Over 70 brands/makers in all, with CRKT currently holding a slim lead as far as quantity.

I own 62 knives ..lol.. i just counted them , folders and fixed blades.. I started buying knives that looked cool and now i find myself doing a lot of research online before i buy anything and im always looking !!!! I definitely try to look for quality knives not super expensive the most expensive knife i own is a ZT300 or my Cold Steel large Espada (the one with polished g10 ) My girlfriend bought me that one for Christmas ...I just enjoy collecting......S#*T I have to go out and snow blow the driveway . Getting sick of snow !!!!

I'm an accumulator who has many sub collections in his accumulation. :)

My only criteria for accumulating is I have to like it, whether it's cute, cool, had sentimental value, sentimental value accounts for a majority of the poorer quality knives I still own, they're the ones that relatives see at yard sales and flea markets and because I collect knives they give 'em to me.

It's not all bad, I got a beautiful 50s Celluloid fishing knife in near mint condition that a friend found at a little yard sale by his house, he got it for $5 and have it to me. :)
