What Do you Collect Other than Knives?

Or what would you collect if you could? I think of my self as more of an accumulator. If I like it I buy it and sometimes I end up with a collection. When I was younger I collected skulls and old taxidermy mounts. I the past I have had up to 15 old Chevy’s from the 30s and 40s. They have all been sold. Collecting takes time and or money. As and artist and a dealer in fossils I have dealt with collectors for the last 25 years. I have heard it said that one of the reasons that the rich get richer is that if they are wise they by things of lasting value and the average person shops at Wal-Mart. Today I picked up one of the finest mammoth tusks I have ever seen. I sold it with a phone call to a friend who makes knives for the super rich in Texas. He will have no trouble getting rid of it.

I collect penguin stuff. Not just any old "oh that's cute" penguins, mostly realistic looking paraphernalia related to penguins.

I also collect boxes. (Not the brown cardboard kind, little unique ones, usually made out of wood, china, porcelain, etc.)

I'm also a bit fanatical about storage containers. Plastic storage containers, rolling carts with drawers, cosmetic bags, bins, duffle bags, backpacks, you name it. I own hundreds. It drives my husband nuts cause most of the time I never get around to organizing anything, so they sit empty.

I also have an apparent addiction to travel coffee mugs with lids. I deny it, but my family will tell you otherwise.

I must have some sort of psychological issues with trying to contain - or bottle up - my emotions or something, from the looks of this list. Anyone care to analyze?

Remember- leave the penguin on the chessboard facing due south in case your captives try to escape! :D

As soon as I get some dough I may start collecting tarantulas, right now I only have 2. It's a money/space issue, but maybe some day I can afford both of those things.

Moving to Gadgets & Gear.

i do not consider myself a collector, altho others might.
i do not collect knives, i do find them very interesting,
as i do any well made tool (i.e. my IWC aqua timer)

hawaiian shirts

love to travel, esp internationally, maybe i collect experiences?
sounds a bit pretentious maybe.

always remember....what you own, owns you.

What do I collect aside from knives?

Music CD's, flashlights, watches, books, too much weight :D, too many ex-wives :D.

I'd have to say cell phones. Especially quad-band international units. I love tech stuff and can't resist getting new cell units. I'm even on three different carriers. The wife is ready to do away with me. Knives, guns, cell phones... arghhh! It's too much for her sometimes!

My avocation is collecting "Einsteinia".
I enjoy owning Minox Cameras, watches, pens, wallets, money clips, and Ti things:)
All sorts and manner of pocket stuff! A modern day Huckleberry Finn, except I've substituted the "sure enough real Barlow", the frog and the string for other pocket goodies.
As an educator, I would be amiss if I didn't say books, too!

Bills lately :( then canons, rocks,I have pieces of the Berlin Wall, Alcatraz(the Rock) several castles in England, and rocks from around the world), flashlights, watches, radios, toys, cars, motorcycles, canoes, in general just stuff, lots and lots of stuff.

Vinyl records. I'm into hi fi - and even built my own top notch speakers.

But luckily enough I'm not exactly a "collector" - I'm not trying to find one of everything, or really rare stuff - I'm just buying good music on the cheap. I get a lot of satisfaction by putting on a new used lp and listening straight through with no distractions. My living room is (tastefully) set up as a listening room - there's no tv, just good music in there. Although I got back into vinyl in 96, I only started buying vinyl in 2001 once I got into on the hi fi kick. In 4 years I've bought maybe 300 albums. Add that to the 300 I already had and it becomes a collection.

There are two kinds of knife collector - one who just likes new gadgets and tools and who buys knives because he likes to have a new toy once in a while . . and the other that is compelled to buy every single Case pocket knife in every single color because having a complete set brings a sense of meaning to his life. This second category is borderline OCD, but if it makes them happy who am I to complain.

edit: ok, I just realized that i have about 1,000 comics down in the basement from when I was an adolescent - all in bags with acid free cardboard stored alphabetically and numerically correct . . . so maybe I have a bit of the Case collector in me . . . .

Wag Magic: The Gathering and comics (dug the magic cards out last night; thinking about eBay.The 24 boxes of comics would go there as well if I had the other 12 from my mom's house), but those kinda fell by the wayside when I dicovered butterfly knives (again).

Now it's usuable, well-made EDC gear. (got my first Surfire coming soon!)

I'm big on flashlights, knives, keychain toys of all kinds, whistles. I have a lot of hand tools and power tools too and a few pistols. I also collect raw materials for knifemaking and have a zillion different kinds of wood, G10 and different thicknesses of ti and other exotic materials and bits of precious metals. Then there's books, so many books! And did I mention my CD collection? Probably more than 1000 CDs at this point in many genres.
