What do you do with your 5

Since I'll soon be wearing my 5 all day every day, I am currently taking it with me everywhere and using it for pretty much everything. Kindling for the fire? Check. Cut up our chicken? Check. Slice paper at work for fun before putting a fresh edge on it? Check. Paired with my fork at the dinner table? Check.

My wife was laughing at me the other night when she saw me cutting limes to make us some Caipirihna's. Yes, I use this knife to help me prepare alcoholic beverages. :D

You mind if I ask what your line of work is? People tend to get freaked out by a knife that size...

I use it primarily as a heavy duty butcher knife or as a short machete, and it does well in either role.

I'm a profession douche bag. No really. I work Executive Protection so I guess you can say that I get paid to literally be a douche bag. That's why I'm so nice otherwise! Haha! Right now, it usually sits on a desk or in my vehicle if I am working. It sits on the kitchen counter at home.

In the beginning of April, my wife and I are moving the fam out to some property we bought in the PNW and will be homesteading there. After doing a lot of research, I decided that the BK5 would be the right balance of knife that I need alongside an axe to get some serious work done. It will be dispatching small game, cleaning larger game, clean fish, will cut vegetables and work in the garden, and will help prepare kindling to get my fires started along with preparing meals. So I'll be carrying this knife all day every day and when I do end up heading into town to get stuff that I need, people will just have to deal with it. My biggest concern is that I can be effective as possible based on my budget. I'm not so worried about getting some panties in a bunch.

Cut stuff, mostly. :D

Its one of the best designed knives I've ever used, nothing on this knife doesn't have a purpose.

Surviormind, you will enjoy using the 5 for what you are doing. The spine being crowned as it is serves two purposes. One to reduce drag while slicing but the other main function is was intended for was to break small bones that you did not want to chop with your edge, such as rabbitt, squirrels, I even broke a deer leg bone with it just to check it out, and you sure do not want to hit a deer leg bone with the primary edge. Once the bone is broken I used the primary edge to slice through the meat portion. In a make do situation your knife needs that secondary crown or clip to serve a function. Least wise that is one of the things I do with my 5, your mileage may vary.

Now that's something I'd never known before. Too cool. Thanks for the info, sir.

I use mine to help me split wood and start fires, make awesome camp food, amuse children by carving them wooden knives, and generally do anything needed in camp. Even used them to prune some trees in my yard.

I use mine for multi-tasking mostly. A little of this & a little of that.

Here it is, brand spanking new.

Here it is batoning.

It also spends time in the kitchen, but i have no pics of that yet. :D Hope this helps you make up your mind. :D :thumbup:

Hey Mooze, looking forward to try to get with you guys at the gathering this spring. Let me know the dates as soon as possible. We got a lot of juggling to do with spring this year.

I use mine more in the kitchen then anywhere else. It is a great slicer of larger meats, and makes short work of vegetables. I think the handle has helped reduce hand fatigue. It is a tough knife, and I'm sure would stand up to splitting firewood. But I carry another tool that works faster for that! A hatchet.

I'll tell ya what, if you let me know when the best time for you, we'll make the Gathering match.....

This fella by the name of Jerry Fisk shaves babies with his. Not sure what the market is like for that, but the man has a passion, and I ain't one to cast judgement on such things.

Fisk, that's awesome to know, Sir. I really love the geometry of this blade and plan on using it for just about everything around the homestead. I'll do my best to provide feedback about the blade and my experience with it. I actually just finished batoning some wood for our fire tonight. :D

On another note guys, say hi to Mrs. Survivormind if you see her commenting on here. My super badass mother-of-six wife has taken some interest in this forum and will probably be on here at some point to talk some smack about her BK2. LOL

And Happy New Year! Below is a pic of what I was doing with the BK5 tonight...snapped back to true afterwards!

You know at first I wasn't sure what to make of you man. After you have spent a bit here though, I gotta say I think you are going to fit right in. If you haven't made plans to, you need to try to get to Ethan's for one of the gatherings, there is nothing else like them. Glad to have you aboard, and looking forward to seeing your wife talk some smack about the BK2.
