What do YOU do with your knife?

The only comment I've gotten when using my knife at work is, "Wow that's a sharp knife!" I hold back the sarcasm that hits my tongue. For instance...oh I don't know...why the heck would I use a dull one.:p To me there's a name for a dull knife, it's called a wedge.

I think years ago, most people carried a knife for a whole load of reasons--including the feeling of having something for self-protection (against dogs, aggressive squirrels, human predators, etc.). I've used my knives to cut cord, open packages, and cut sandwiches/fruit/vegetables/big wontons in wonton soup! I also like to take walks through parks and to keep things interesting will use my knife to cut branches and to practice throwing into discarded cigarette packs on the grass.

I use my knife every day. Many things in modern life have "improved", but I hope packaging does not get any better. You need a Buck 110 just to get into potato chip bags these days. Are the bags tougher or am I gettng weaker? Any excuse will do. You'll need a bowie knife and a multi-tool to unwrap your daughter's Barbie! Lately I've been using my Vaquero to open my shipments of new knives! My freinds (both of them) all know never to ask, "Has anyone got a knife?". they know that in a instant blur I will produce some evil-looking blade from out of nowhere. I live for those moments.

To be honest, Until I started visiting this forum, I never considered that people might be intimidated by my carrying a knife.

But, I spent last saturday working at my son's school with a bunch of other parents, and I couldn't help but notice that I was the only one carrying a knife, and I was carrying 3. Yeah, people kept asking to borrow one.

And now that I think about it, I wonder what these no knife having people do when they have to buy something that is sealed up in that bulletproof clamshell packaging they use nowadays? Just sit and stare at it wistfully?
