What Do You Get From Bladeforums?

Just from the "Recent Threads" listing, I notice that some people start threads quite a bit in the Politics section. They seem to thrive on this and come solely for politics, rather than in to discuss knives.

That is not surprising, for two reasons:

--the Forum has over 170,000 members. With such a large number, there is sure to be a diversity of interests.

--people who come back a lot (such as yours truly) know how much of a community this place is. The fact that some members feel comfortable enough to express themselves flows from that.

So...why do you come to Bladeforums? Let's leave out the obvious: to talk about knives. Everyone would say that. So besides talking about knives, why else do you come here?

Possible answers:

--to learn
--to talk politics
--to trade or sell
--for friendship

There are probably dozens more.

The General Knife Discussion is for talking about knives.
So I moved this to Community Center.

Sorry about that. I didn't know where it belonged, so took a chance. Thank you for listing it properly.

I'm here to:

View pictures of knives.
Read reviews of knives.
Find out about soon to be released knives.
Purchase knives.
Debate/argue "best" knives.
Troll.

I come to bladeforums to find information on knives through(usually) helpful and informative people here on the forums and sometimes I just like to talk about random crap in W&C.

Many things. I've learned more by lurking here & searching topics than I have in any other way. I've bought knives (some hard to find)from other members. I've gotten the word early on sprint runs. And I've ogled much knife porn.

~~I come to enjoy the view, get links, maybe buy a knife or ask advice before I do, get a laugh or 2...but mostly to learn; and if I know answers, offer them. I've left a knife forum due to seeing too many low shots and occasionally more discussion on politics than knives. I've never been to the political board here, and likely never will. And although I do spend most of my time over at the Sharper Deals forum, (auto knife focused, vintage for the most part), I find myself coming back here often, (and for the most part lurking), because I find the topic diversity appealing, and for the most part, the members here make it worth hanging around.

besides knives I look for information about backpacking, survival, bushcraft.

Most my time here is spent in the great outdoors sub forums and the becker forum.

I have made friends here that I would not trade for knives, money or love. (maybe a goat or two, but nothing else.) ;)

I come here now to continue the friendships I have primarily. Knives play a small part as to why I come here. Of course, at first it was to learn about knives, but now to stay in touch with friends. I almost forgot, to gather more humorous material, one liners, come backs and down right wonderful vocubulary words from Haze.

I come here to recreate after a hectic day.

To me it's like going to the corner bar to talk to your friends.
Except all the friends in this bar share my love of cutlery.

Very few of my friends like knives so I have no one to share my obsession with steel with. I mainly learn about the chemistry of steel, edge geometry and grinds, and bushcraft skills.

Its also a lot of fun to read people's stories about random stuff and stay informed about everything that's going on in the knife/ gun rights world.

Certainly to learn. And to 'chat' with like-minded people (some truly great folks drop by here to post!).

But really for a few moments of peace from a stress-filled life.
