What Do You Get From Bladeforums?

Spending my life on the road far from my loved ones, this place gives me a community filled with people that enjoy many of the same things that I do. Although I spend my time alone I am always near my friends when I am here.
I've met several people from here while traveling and have spoken with several others on the phone. There are many wonderful people here that I certainly consider friends.

I spent most of my time in the W&SS subforum. The other place I visited a lot was the old ESEE forum.

One of the things I 'get' from BF, is exposure to many custom knife makers, and God knows I have bought enough knives over the years. :D

Political area is a weird one. Moderators seem to be in the thick of some of the most contentious threads. I'm betting that were it not for that aspect of a given thread, they would be locking them. :D

First and foremost, I come because this is where the Busse Combat forum is. It would be difficult to overstate how much the Busses and that community has meant to me over the past nine years. Confined at home caring for a daughter with permanent brain damage from a hit and run, and with my wife still working, they became like a second family and the Busses have been very, very good to my daughter.

Secondly, I was raised in a knife/gun culture and I come here to interact with like-minded people.

Info, all kinds of info. My love of knives has been increased from all the exposure to knife makers, and the awesome pics.
Information on how to make knives, from the upstart to the master, and everything inbetween.

I'm inheriting quite a shop, full of tools, lathe, bandsaws, table saw, anvil, hammers, and so much stuff I can't list it all. I will be making knives sooner than I thought.
Point is, if not for this forum I would be going in slow motion.

This place has kinda become my "home away from home". I joined officially because every time I searched for info on a knife the most hits were from this forum.

I use it primarily for keeping up with the newest and greatest trends in the knife world, and for some good first hand information about blade steels and maintenance, but it has evolved into more. I find myself spending as much time in the Community Center as I do in the various knife sections.

The amount of information here is amazing. I enjoy reading about knifemaking, steel, sharpening, everything. I've made some good friends and we've shared some good laughs.

There are like zero knife nuts around were I live so I pretty much just use this site to connect with other fellow knife nuts.

Knives fire off the pleasure neurons in my shriveled brain stem, the same way that multitools, flashlights, Maxpedition products and guns do. Each allows me to manipulate my environment to some degree. Bladeforums allows me to wallow in the best of knifedom, to see whats new, what other folks enjoys, and so forth. Its just fun. A little escape from reality. And I work on a laptop all day, so I can constantly flip over to BF and see whats going on. I bet that I hit "new posts" as much as anyone here. I just enjoy Bladeforums and my cyber buddies. There are worse things one can do than hang out at Bladeforums.

I just started coming here to read a few reviews on a couple of knives I own to see if
Other people like the knives I chose as much as I like them.

I'm kind of like the creepy kid that gets his face in all the club photos for the yearbook. I read a lot here, and observe all the stuff that goes on. I feel a part of the groups, even if no one knows who I am. I sort of live vicariously through the stuff that goes on, and see the people as my friends. (Okay, I'm not really that creepy, I just like to sit back quietly and participate minimally.) I may not culture the friendships with individuals, but I enjoy observing, and have made some true friends.

I try to contribute my limited knowledge when I can, and help pass on what I know.

I also come to learn more. The collective knowledge here is mind-blowing. To have a question answered by a Master Smith, Dealer, Company President, or a fellow collector is awesome.

This place is an escape from the mundane, a source of joy and laughter, and a steady supply of pretty pictures to download, both knives and other stuff.

This is my second home. My man-cave. My escape. My Fortress of Solitude.

To learn everything from knifemaking tips (plan to be making within a year or two), survival/bushcraft tips and pictures of knives/gear/the outdoors and most importantly sharpening(with forum tips I can finally get a good edge freehand sharpening!). Also been able to buy some cool stuff (have snagged a Laconico, 2 David Farmers, and a Charles May). And Lastly I enjoy hearing from fellow knife-aholics...don't have any were I live, but I am trying to convert a few!
