Hey Guys....
Thanks Very much....
I try Very hard to expose my children to as many things in nature as possible... Anytime I can get wildlife close to them I will stop and bring it home,, no matter what it is...
They learn, and learn the proper way about nature, ,not myths and old wives tales.. At first my kids wouldn't hold the snake because they had been told they were slimey..After coaxing them for 15-20 minutes I finally got my daught to touch it... Then talked her into holding it..
Then when my son Wyatt seen my daughter holding it,, he Cowboyed up and had to hold it as well..
After they seen it was a gentle creature, they couldn't put it down...
We also recently had a bunch of baby rabbits.. We released 3 early this month at a Conservation area close to the house...
The kids wanted to release them in the yard,, but since I shoot rabbits in the backyard I thought it would be safer fro them at the conservation area.. Another bunny we had died.. Kids were distraught over it,, but I explain to them that it's nature, and thats what happens..
We had a funeral in the backyard in the Pet Graveyard. Dog, Cat, budgie (that was forgot in the freezer) another budgie that croaked, a duck and now a Rabbit...
I not only show them live Creatures,, but I show them dead ones as well...
i'm a hunter, and they understand that it's natural to hunt.. I had a deer hanging in the garage for a couple of days,, every morning before school they wanted to look at it....
I even took them black bear hunting last sept...
That disn't go over so well and my son made a blockade of the windows in the cottage,, because he thought a bear would come through...
LOL

Enjoy being with the kids they grow too fast. Got word today my youngest, 22, is getting ready to find a place of his own. Seems like yesterday he was deer hunting with me, too young to hunt but out in the woods with dad anyhow. He would sit next to me and before I knew it he was snooring away.
Soon it will be me and Rosie here at the house. Rosie my dog.
I hear ya Brother..
I've got a 14 year old,, that is just starting with the attitude thing....
Hopefully your pooch likes going out in the woods with you!

A couple of years ago my wifes mother called us up and said she found a snake in her backyard and caught it in her cookie jar. We drove to her house and found she had caught a little rattlesnake. My daughter who was about 10 and I were quite happy and made plans to have it live in the garage near where we raise our meat chicks. My wife and son had a screaming meltdown on the way home with the snake which by now had been named Fangs. I was laughing so hard I couldn't drive and when I pulled over my wife jumped out and said, in a matter of words, "The snake or me". I'm laughing, my daughter is now crying and my wife and son are yelling at me. You can guess who won that fight. Fangs now lives in a field across from Safeway. It is still a sore subject.
Cute kids Eric. I'd expect nothing less from you, my friend.
Thanks thats a funny story...
I once had a big Garder snake in a box in my parent's car.. While in the store it got out and couldn't find it...
Oh Well I thought and didn't tell my mom....
Well on the way to work the next day it came out of the heating vent...She wasn't impressed and drove to a garage to have the snake removed..
I caught Major heck for that!! LOL
Bill...
Eric, How do you tell a baby fox snake from a milk snake? the body markings are indentical from what I remember, is it the band across the top of the head between the eyes? when I was a kid I caught every snake I saw in Ontario. The only ones I never found were the Fox snake and Massassauga rattler, and man I looked hard for them! I have heard that small populations of Black Rat snakes "might" still exist in Southern Ontario, ever seen one?
Bill
Well I don't know,, I've never seen a milk snake before.. We have a good poulation of fox snakes here,,and thats all I really know..
I've seen a Rat snake here before... They are suppose to make good pets....
