What do you guys think about this stove?

a coffee can with holes punched in it would be alot cheaper... it actually works quite well.

i just punch a little door about 2x2 inches square into one of the large coffee cans along the open end (from here on out known as the bottom)

then punch a couple of holes with a triangle end can opener along the top edge for ventilation

then another two triangle holes along the bottom on the opposite side of the door.

and feed sticks through the door and light them on fire...it works the same as the stove you posted as far as i can tell, and its free if you drink coffee.

I also built one from a coffee can. I cut a small door at the bottom and built a small blower with a 6 volt computer fan, a switch, and some batteries to add oxygen to the fire. A little air blowing through the door gets things cook'n real fast. The blower assembly fits inside an Altoids tin.

You could buy one of the charcoal starters and cut a hole in the side for less than 10 bucks. That would be my preferred choice.

Hi Trout if you do want something nice to cook on this stove should work for you no problem. I see no reason why you wouldnt be very happy with it. Me say get it. I used one that looked alot like this one except a little larger and it worked great. Just remember you cant cook a 3 course dinner as it would get full of ash after awhile.

They both are interesting trout . Have fun and let us know how it turns out for you .

Have been thinking along those lines myself .

Hey tf,

If you like the looks of the stoves, why not?

One modification is the 'sleeve' (could be made a bit higher - this was just an experiment) in which the cooking can sits. It is made out of a larger can (than the cooking can) and keeps your cooking can from getting covered in soot (which I don't like, because it gets all over everything) and possibly negates the cooling effect of any wind (?). A work-in-progress.

Just for conversation let me share my favorite setup. I have one of the classic square folding Sterno stoves. It serves as its own windscreen, you can burn any solid fuel or alcohol (with a fireproof container) as well as Sterno. The firebase is raised off the surface to protect whatever you have set it on from the heat and to provide extra O2. Just my $.02
