what do you guys think about using a aus8 knife for camping

I have to disagree, I find it rusts unusually fast. I also do not think it has better wear resistance than the other steels you mentioned.

Really? I use an AG Russel Woodswalker in the kitchen. It stays wet pretty frequently, but I haven't seen any rust yet.

First off, punctuation is your friend. :D

Second of all, in my experience, AUS-8 is a decent steel (superior to what you'd imagine) with good edge retention and ease of resharpening if you do it properly. However, this particular steel did rust unnaturally fast in my Cold Steel X2 Voyager. Recently, I've taken to carrying H1, S30V, VG10, or D2, so my later experience with this is limited.

It's good steel in a pocket knife but i wouldn't want it in a fixed blade, for hard use i will only use a carbon steel knife.

I have one of the Loveless-designed Beretta knives in AUS 8 and it's a great performer. I can completely disassemble an entire season worth of whitetails and it's still shaving sharp.

The high production quality of that knife, along with its excellent hollow grind, combine to make for an unusually good slicer.

If you're using a knife of AUS8 in the field, I highly recommend you have a sharpening tool with you.

The steel takes a terrifically sharp edge, but it dulls relatively quickly.

The SOG is a good knife but IMO there are better knives out there for similar money.

It is a very good steel but you will need a sharpening tool.
