What do you guys think of the new cf m390 sprint run spyderco military?

This is a public inormation bulletin: The hackneyed, played-out, overused phrase "drink the kool-aid" has officially expired. From this point forward, using it ranks up there with the guys who do the little finger-quote gesture when indicating sarcasm. It's official now. This is the memo. Being interested in something others aren't isn't akin to being a member of Jim Jonse's cult.
Also, "Mall ninja" expires next year, to be superseded with "tacticool".

At to the M390 Military sprint, I have mine pre-ordered. The regular one has great ergos & edge geometry & carries very well for a knife of it's size. The sprint will be a top-shelf design in absolute premium materials. Looking forward to it.

P.S. I would've photoshopped a Millie in his hand if I had the skill.

I think I'll really like mine. Well, I know I will, since I love my CF BG42 millie.

Got one on order and one of the Para's too. They're not the worst knives you could buy. ;)

How is the M390 steel vs S30v?

Two separate questions.
  • the Military, is a big knife. Bigger than what I need. And, for me, Carbon fiber handles aren't worth the extra money they cost. They are pretty, but there's no performance difference over G10. I don't buy pocket jewelry.
  • M390 holds an edge far better than S30V. It's as great a difference as that between the edge retentions of S30V and 420HC.
I doubt that I will get one. Not because the steel isn't great, but I just don't need it in that design. I have an M390 blade, already.

But, if you like the Spyderco Military, the steel upgrade would be worthwhile.

Whether it's worth the price to you, is something only you will be able to decide.

It's a great steel and it seems that Spyderco's M390 may be run a little harder than Benchmades (From Jim Ankerson's edge retention tests). I have a BM in M390 and love the "bite" the steel has, even with a mirror polish. The other steels I use, S90V and 3V take on fine edges...but lose some of the bite with the polished edge that M390 just seems to keep.

This Millie with M390 has a large blade, is thin and light to carry, has great edge retention, and keeps a great aggressive edge...not sure what else one my be looking for in a slicer. I don't particularly care about the carbon fiber but I'll take it since it comes with M390. I'm in it for the steel.

If the $220 is bugging you, what is the cheapest knife you can get in M390 (again...if that is what you want)? $187 for the BM 581? $200 for the new BM806 (actually considering that one too)?

But to each his/her own...it's your money, spend it how you like. From this post, you know that I have mine already on order.

I think M390 is the best stainless on the market right now because it holds the razor edge for such a long time. S90V is really great too though. Ive used my Jim Rosa Nessmuck quite a bit and have never sharpened it and it still shaves. Just give it a strop and its good to go. I really want to get a custom 3-4 inch EDC in M390 and really put it to work. Until then ill wait till the M390 mille comes out. Can't wait for it!

I still have a problem with the Military being available in tip down configuration only. I think enough customers have voiced the opinion that the clip should be four way for Spyderco to make the change. I would have more Military models if Spyderco would just tap some extra holes and change the clip. That's my opinion. As long as the clip stays in the same old tip down position, I just won't buy them. I know that some of you guys are going to attack my statement and tell me that you don't want extra holes in your knife and so on and so forth, but if they can do it for the Paramilitary then they can do it for the Military. The Para 2 seems just as popular, if not more popular, than the Para 1.

Spyderco, add more tapped holes for those who want more carry options.

M390 is a good steel and I like it on my Kershaw Volts, but I like the steel of my CTS-20CP Para 2 more. So where is the 20-CP Military? I also agree with knarfeng about Peel Ply Carbon Fiber. The cost of the Peel Ply over G-10 doesn't click with me and it offers no great property advantages over G-10 either. I don't remember exactly how much my M4/G-10/Ti Military cost me, but I'm pretty sure it was around the same price as this M390/Peel Ply offering. That doesn't make sense to me.

I'm sure that everyone who receives one will enjoy it and there will be rave reviews. I'm also sure that you'll be seeing them going for between $300 and $400 on Ebay once they have all shipped and are in the hands of the owners. It's just not doing it for me.

I have one on order as well. What I'd like to know is where I can order/buy a Paramilitary 2 with M390 and C/F to match it.

where did you pre order your para 2 m390 from? I saw it on bentobox but im not familiar with them. Are they a reliable source? And maybe a stupid question or already posted but which do you prefer? the s90v, 20cp or m390? they are around the the same price range 200 ish.

better steel still overpriced, oversized and overrated.
Care to elaborate instead of just drive-by-trolling?

IMO, this knife is one of the best bangs for your buck on the market, if you can get it. My Millie was my favorite folder Ive ever had, but my wife accidentally had it in her purse when we were at the airport and short on time, so it went into the trash :( I carry my para everywhere, but maybe its time for another millie.

Ordered from them a couple times. Always quick delivery and great customer service.

Sold out for a bit from what I see on the site. They'd do well to extent the run a bit. Short of a frame lock version it'll be hard to top this with the next sprint run.

The military really doesn't feel big or heavy in pocket. I guess because of the thinness of knife. I love my military and am getting two cf m390 mils

So in your opinion the new para2's in m390 should be better then the para2's in cts-20cp or s90v since i've read that 20cp and s90v are very similar.

Us guys probably won't notice the difference in use. I bet the more experienced guys who use their knives a lot will though. I want it just the same. :D

I'll edit that: I probably won't notice in use.

I'm just wondering which one to get. I can get the m390 para2 for 179ish from the bentobox guys and the cts-20cp for around 200-244 from here or ebay. Just with all the reviews and forums I've read M390 seems really amazing as does the 20cp. I was dead set on the s30v till I stumbled upon the other steels. Now I feel as if I'm selling myself short if I don't grab me one of the m390 para2's since the s30v ones can be purchased easily.
