What do you guys think of the Spyderco Navaja?

legion681, you're right. Tsujigiri, you're just plain wrong.

I think Spyderco's interpretation of such an iconic knife is very good. Incorporating a "sound" in a knife design is pretty cool. The execution is flawless, at least on mine. I had mine for exactly 2 hours, and so far I like it.

I think Dagon's opinion is most similar to my own, very interesting knife with some decent "cool" factor, but more of a trophy knife.

And come on, you can't hear the thing ratchet from very far away at all, how could anyone really think that that would deter/intimidate a criminal? Its just an interesting bit of background Spyderco put into the product description...

Your argument doesn't make sense. Ok, so what you're saying is that Spyderco means something completely different from what they're saying, and if I make fun of their product description I'm not using my brain? So I was supposed to assume that they were making a product claim much more intelligent and reasonable than what they actually said? Fact are facts, and Spyderco did say that the carraca can deter criminals. Yes, that IS what they said. I find that claim a little odd, so I don't see why I can't make fun of it. I don't care what you think they really intended to do by producing this knife; the truth is that they put out a knife with a useless gimmicky feature and made some ridiculous claims about it. And it doesn't matter that this is a "knife from Spyderco," Spyderco is one of my favorite brands. But I do think with my own brain, and I don't assume that Spyderco never puts out duds.

Talk about missing the point...

Congratulations for replying with a lot of gibberish...If there's someone that does not make any sense at all here, it's you.

I will not address what you said as it's truly a garbled mess/rant. I will tell you how the situation really is with the navaja. If you want to
finally understand it, fine...if you don't, well...it's your problem.

Here it goes:
- the Spyderco Navaja is a MODERN interpretation of a historical type of knife. To remain as true as possible to the original navajas
of medieval times, they included a mechanism that recreates the sound (which is called Carraca). In the original knife, the sound was a byproduct of the ratcheting locking mechanism.
In Spyderco's Navaja, the sound is not connected to the locking mechanism as they chose a safer, more modern locking
mechanism. In the original, the sound came to be associated by the average person with a knife being readied for use, therefore it
became some sort of deterrent. Nowaday, it's only there for effect and nothing else, I highly doubt it that anyone will feel fear just
by the sound itself.
- Spyderco's own description is just meant to give a little hindsight into the HISTORY and MYSTIQUE of the Navaja...NOT to tell people that
the sound of their knife makes people cower in fear.

THAT'S IT. NOTHING ELSE.

Now you can chose to accept it or to dispute it with some more gibberish. Your call. I am done with this, because I explained this in the
utmost logical way that I could think of. If it isn't good enough for you, there's nothing I can do with this anymore.

Good luck.

Thanks.

I love my Navaja too, what a great knife. Fit and finish is excellent, great looks, great knife overall. Enjoy yours!

Re. bolded part: yeah it's obvious to you, me and probably the rest of people who looked into what the Spyderco Navaja is. Now please do me a favor, try to explain this to that Tsujiri guy. The words "Mission Impossible" come to my mind...

I have a Spyderco Millie and love it! The Spyderco Navaja looks more of a collection piece to me, it is beautiful knife. I'm planing on getting one in the near furture to add to my collection. I'll go will the Millie or para-millie. Just to through a curve ball check out the ZT 0350 its within your budget and its a 3.5" blade. I also love Kershaw / ZT.

if spydie's typical superior construction is in the product i see no problem. if one does'nt care for the gimmick , do'nt buy it. there are plenty of various knife companies with nonsensible features such as double locks & double safeties. i love spydies but think the ratchet sound is stupid.---dennis

I think it's a cool knife with a fun novelty factor to it. Nothing to get upset about there. :)
