What do you guys think of the swisschamp?

Ooh, IMO,
the Swiss champ should either be
the very first
Or very simply
the absolute last Sak model
for one to own.
All because of its weight and size,
(Discounting the fact that it does offer one,
The full range of blade tools
To tinker with the day through).
It is certainly not something
That one would suddenly buy mid way
Of a sak collection fever... :-)
Or maybe the mistaken idea
That it might somehow resolve
the vain hope of putting
To an end, the confusion of
Going through countless models
With less than perfect tool combinations...
For the man who has wants it all
I m sorry to have to say that
We do have to learn to live with compromises.

All Victorinox knives are made in Switzerland. There are two factories. One in Ibach, and one in Delemont, but both in Switzerland. If a knife wasn't made in Switzerland, then it isn't a Victorinox.

O.B.

Thank you Old Biker I'm glad to know that. Their quality has always stood out to me especially for the modest prices they sell their wares at. I've also got some of their fanny packs, wallet ( that's lasted over 10 years by the way), and a couple of backpacks all made by Victorinox. As far as I'm concerned they are the best maker of multi-tools period IMO. All of the tools on their multi-tools really do work and work well I might add.

This is what their web sit has to say about where their products are made.

"Victorinox guarantees that its products meet the highest standards in all areas and quality is never compromised, regardless of the production site. The majority of Victorinox products – the Swiss Army Knives, Household and Professional knives, Watches and Fragrances– are manufactured in Switzerland.

For reasons of expertise,Travel Gear items are produced abroad, where the technical, staff and material resources needed for efficient manufacture can be accessed. To ensure that these products also meet the highest standards, partners are chosen carefully and the high quality standards are stringently enforced."

I possess 6 "Swisschamp" among whom two in kit SOS, 3 are of before 1986, they are as new. Swisschamp is certainly the most accomplished knife of Victorinox. He is found in France from 48€

I have contradicting feelings about the SwissChamp. It's my first SAK and therefore it has sentimental value for me. It is also a great showcase piece from the company about how amazingly well a multitool can be made and how brilliantly so many tools can be packed to such small space.
But in other hand, I cannot see many reasons why I would not own or carry more robust multitool that has bigger, more powerful and serious tools with steel frame and that is not really that much more heavy or bigger in size.
I would carry SwissChamp in my murse if I lived in large city or if I went for long adventure abroad where more subtle tool is required (vs. locking blades for instance).
That being said, I do love my SwissChamp, but I mostly keep it at home. When I head out for adventures, I take my SwissTool spirit instead. I put it either to my backpack or belt pouch where the weight and size doesn't make any difference.

Swisschamp is more compact, lighter and more multi-purpose(versatile) than Swisstool Spirit. Swisstool spirit addresses more specifically the professionals

That is true! The corkscrew, micro screwdriver, pen and pin comes in mind first. SwissChamp has more elegance and it's tools are finer. Greatest example is the scissors that are much more refined in the SwissChamp where the SwissTool has more robust scissors (both have pros and cons).

[/ QUOTE]
Yes you are right

Nothing wrong with the Swiss Champ if you're willing to deal with the weight and bulk. I'm primarily a two-layer SAK guy, and sometimes three.

I have a black one named "The Brick", because of the weight and size. Lol

Carried it the other day in my cargo pocket with no problem. The wind definitely wouldn't blow me away. :)

I do recommend taking the key ring off because when you close the awl sometimes it will close on the ring and put a dent in the awl. I've noticed this on some of my other SAKs.

The swisschamp is kinda expensive for that to happen to it.

Used mine today to saw some grapevines in a bush i was cutting down.

Instead of my Swisschamp, I usually carry my Huntsman+Multitool combo.

This combo gives me just about all the tools of the Champ (that I use) but in two tools. Sometimes this can be an advantage when tightening hose clamps or the like. Also they are less unwieldy to use than the Swisschamp. Peeling an apple is much easier with the Huntsman than the Swisschamp. The pliers on the multitool are also much better than those on the Swisschamp.

However sometimes I just like the convenience of carrying a single tool. In that case I'll carry the champ.

It looks like it could fit all my needs except a clock/light. Is it heavy? Large? Uncomfortable to use certain tools because of the size?
Once you accept that it is for belt pouch carry, it is wonderful. I particularly like the inclusion of the olive fork. (on the end of the fish scaler)

Seriously though, the file is useful, and not a lot of smaller SAKs have it. Scissors: always useful. magnifier and inline Phillips? Ditto. They DO make a couple models that are a smidge thinner without the fish scaler, but not in as many variations and they sometimes cost even more than the Swisschamp.

I got my daughter a Swisschamp for her 5th birthday.

I got one for my son for his 12th birthday: (that was right before he hit puberty, so it's fun to hear his boy voice)

Here's her review on it:

They are the best. toys. EVER. (with supervision and good parenting)

If you're thinking about a thick Swiss army knife, you should also consider the CyberTool range. That CyberTool is just wonderful. Having all those bits, an inline driver with some reach: it's completely worth the thickness it adds, and is useful a lot more often than some of the implements on a Swisschamp. I got the medium one with pliers and scissors.

Always EDC a ´Champ since...don´t know. And i wanted to go for the Spirit to Change that habbit. BUT: Got a Spirit which is supersweet in General, but mine just had Minimum side to side movment in the chisel, the screwdriver, and even more movement in the saw. Turned me off in a way you can´t even imagine.
So i send it back and probably will never ever try one again.
Always had best experience with the products of my swiss neighbours tough!
but the Champ holds everything. Im located in a wine Region, so even the corkscrew has its right to be there. Magnifiing glas is good against splinters and when you have a 6 yo whos a bug Enthusiast. No needle on the Spirit, no pen. and scissors that are not coming Close to the original SAK scissors. IMHO

nough said... my Champ rules!!! (just biased with that haha)

That’s weird. My Spirit has zero play in the tools. In fact, I don’t even know how that would be possible. You definitely got a lemon.

Yes definitley got a lemon, no doubt about. Does not even turn down my opinion on victorinox. Just showed me, that for me edc needs a Champ is more in favor as i expected.
So why spend 151€ on the bruined Version when my Champ does it equaly for me.
