What do you guys think of these Lifesaver Bottles ????

Somewhat expensive, and somewhat unproven technology in a portable platform... I would say hold off for a bit.

Looks good. For 400 though. Why not just bring bleach?

Was it on here that someone was saying, "never fly the A model?"

I'll wait, maybe that $400 bottle will be like the $700 playstation 2 a friend of mine bought in 2000. I think you can get them in walmart now for approximately 10% of that price. I'll wait a few years with my current gear, I think!

The Katadyn product that Wal-Mart carries is very different from the Lifesaver. The Katadyn Exstream XR relies on a 1.0 Micron Plastic Filter to filter the water, Iodine to purify it, and Activated Carbon to improve taste.

The Lifesaver doesn't need to use iodine because the filter's pores are smaller than a virus (25 nanometers, or .025 microns). In theory the Lifesaver should purify water of all biological, mineral, and most (if not all) chemical contaminants. I would like proof that it works as advertised before I risk my life on it.

IMO, the Katadyn Exstream XR basically provides the same results on biological contaminants and similar results on chemical contaminants as the Lifesaver for less than $40.00. I think that any iodine aftertaste (if any) left by the Katadyn is well worth the $360.00 savings when compared with the Lifesaver.

I will just stick to using a cloth to filter out branches and what have you, boil the water then drink it through my in-line filter. Probably takes about 20 minutes from collecting the water, throwing branches in my pocket cooker for fire, boiling then waiting for it to cool enough to put in my camelbak. No prob.

No, I mean you can now get a playstation 2 for around 10% of its' original release price. That's what I'm hoping will happen with the Lifesaver.
