What do you guys think of this design?

The smaller knife will do well for skinning work. I don't know alot but I would hesitate to make that small one out of 3/16ths. If it had more contour to be a true skinner, and you were apt to be holding the knife as so, with your fore finger running the spine, I would say yeah, but the fact you are using it for camp work and that blade just says cooking since their is not alot of other uses for that design in MHO, I would keep it no thicker than a 1/8th at the spine. Not like the small one is going to be chopping alot of anything other than food, meat and veggies.

The big knife I would make the grind closer to the edge for durability reasons cause chopping is going to be hard on it and as the others have said, get that false point level with the spine. Just my observations.

I started drawing it but didn't finish and didn't have time today at all. Did you already cut it out?

If you could just draw the handle and space the bolts evenly that would be sufficient. I have not had time to cut it out, so no I have not.

What you got is fine if that is your desire and fits your hand best. My hand likes ahandle that dips more in the back and shorta like a drop point blade. That's just me cause I am constantly working the hide in my off hand and I hold the knife with my fore finger running the spine of the blade. It is very comfy to me, quick, and accurate to cut the memebrane and not the hide cause your hand is so close to your work. God BLess

Just an FYI, but A2 is actually stronger at Rockwell 60, than at the lower levels you mention.

nice designs, I'm liking the bigger one. looks like it will be heavy and able to do some damage

one of these days, I am gonna have to start a thread for my designs......I get bored in class lol

Thanks for all the help guys! That design is not my favourite. I drew it to fill in the space w/o really seeing if it would fit my hand, right now I am making an Izula-esque small knife. I am no longer going to do the large knife because I have a BK2, and a BK9 on its way. I think I will use the steel to make several small knives.

Waht do you think about more of a nessmuk shape? Seems like 9" should be enough steel for the blank.

I have a BK2 already modeled so I could send you a drawing of it. Bear in mind the handle is 5" long so I'm not sure if you have enough material for it. You could scale it down a bit though.

Looks nice! I was going to make a new topic but saw this one so I'd figure I'd post mine here for feedback too. Hope no one cares...

Well I guess I'm going to try this Aldo 1084 that a fellow forum-er is going to be sending me. If I like it I will probably be a new aldo customer lol. I'm pretty stoked. I'm actually Practicing my handle making now. I'm using clear surfboard resin left over from shaping. I'll post pics in a little bit of test pieces.

Here's the test piece I made up for handles. Of course it's way to thick but it seemed to be chip resistant when I took a hammer to it. I used an old bandana cut into strips. Can't wait to make The real ones
