What do you guys think

I have neither, but it wouldn't be much of a contest for me. I don't like metal handles - even titanium. I don't like framelocks. And I don't like assisted openers or Carson flippers. I have enough knives with all those features in one combination or another to know I wouldn't carry the Kershaw for more than a week. I'd go with the Caly3.

But it is your money, and your tastes are probably different from mine (since you are considering that Kershaw ;) )

Biggest reason im looking at the mini-cyclone is the ZDP-189 and a nice med-heavy use blade shape. But recently i heard what happens when carbon fiber de-laminates(or w/e its called) and having carbon fiber splinters surgically removed sounds like not so much fun...

hmmmmmmm...... decsisions decisions

Under what conditions did the laminate in question fail? Was it being used as a knife handle?
(Standard terminology is "break" or "fail". The term "delamination" is usually reserved for a specific type of failure.)

It is true that carbon fiber splinters are nasty. However, I seriously doubt that a knife handle would fail unless it were abused (hit with a hammer, used as a hammer, purposely bent, etc.).

I have heard from people i know of the resin in carbon fiber breaking down with time and allowing the actual carbon fibers to get loose from the handle. story i heard was a carbon fiber shafted gold club

Caly 3 zdp, its not even a choice in my eyes, but like yablanowitz I am a die hard spydie guy. That Caly3 zdp is on the top of my to get list, but I also love serations, and I have a Caly 3 SE. S'o Im kind of waiting for A Caly3 zdp SE? I'm not even sure these are coming out BUT I just think they will.

I don't like carbon fiber on anything other than a car, but I'd take the Caly 3 over most knives. It's a more civilized EDC knife, and I think it looks great.

hmmmm looks like for the most part people are leaning to the caly 3 well i figure i have another oh..... 24 hours or so to decide before my itchy clicker finger cant take it anymore... lol

The fibers are typically held together by epoxy resin. Epoxy is stable and does not break down. However, UV radiation such as that found in sunlight can break epoxy down. I would not expect properly done carbon fiber golf shafts (or knife handles) to break down from UV exposure unless they were left in direct sunlight for an extended length of time (on the order of a couple of months of daily 12-hr per day direct exposure). I would be interested to hear the particulars of this failure.

A lot of micarta is made with epoxy. All G10 is epoxy, as well. Haven't read about any of those knife handles decomposing. I really don't think it is an issue for a knife handle.

As for me, most of the time my knife is in my pocket. No sunshine in there.:D

I don't have either but would choose the Kershaw ZDPTi.
I've actually been thinking of getting that one for a week now.

lol I'd say the Kershaw.
Love flippers, love liner locks, it depends on how hard you will use the knife because the lock backs are supposed to be stronger.

I'm not a huge fan of spyderco. I still own a couple and will still own more.
they make nice knives but they just feel a little too "mass produced" to me.
Although it looks like you can disassemble that one, maybe I just haven't spent enough money on one before.

I also tend to go more towards tacticool looks and feel

I'd go Spyderco----I own 3-4 Kershaw's and really don't like them much---I was buying what I thought was a good name at the time. While functionly OK--there is just something "off" about them.
